One month ago, we talked recruiting with Obinna Ekezie Jr, a Top-5 junior out of Southeastern Prep (Florida).
He tells Stockrisers.com he has locked in a visit to Kentucky, in an unofficial capacity, for their matchup with Purdue on October 24th. In addition, he’s in the process of finalizing a visit with Ohio State, as Jake Diebler was at his school a few weeks ago.
Ekezie Jr. said this on Kentucky:
“Kentucky has been really involved with my recruitment. They were the first blue blood to offer me. I think they are a great program.”
The 7-foot center was drawing new interest from Arkansas at the time and ultimately met with and received an offer from John Calipari.
Today, two programs that haven’t offered him will be at Southeastern Prep this afternoon, and Ekezie Jr. has a real good chance at landing offers from at least one of the two.
Auburn’s Steven Pearl and at least one assistant will see Ekezie Jr. today. Pearl has only been the head coach for a little less than a month now and will have Ekezie Jr. as one of his first recruiting targets as the head coach.
Ekezie Jr. told Stockrisers.com he’s talked with Pearl since he took the reins as head coach:
“Got in contact with the new head coach, Steve Pearl, recently, and had a great conversation with him. They have been in contact a lot and will be here today.”
In addition, North Carolina’s Hubert Davis will be in for Ekezie Jr. and his Southeastern Prep teammates.
“They have been recruiting me since last year while I was with Prolific Prep.” Also says he has a good relationship with Coach Davis and that he’s a good coach.
