Top-50 junior Colin Smith discusses his recruitment and game
In a state that is absolutely loaded with talent, I think Colin Smith has been able to create a name for himself in the state of Texas. The 6-foot-8 forward out of St. Mark’s in Dallas, Texas, has been a high-level recruit for the majority of his high school career so far, and during his junior campaign, he looks to cement his place as a top-level recruit in America.
Smith has been able to have very solid recruitment over the past few months but his play on the court this summer with the Southern Assault just proved why he has earned all of these scholarship offers and interest.
He’s a high-motor forward with length and elite potential. He could knock down shots from multiple levels and his versatility is a plus on both ends as well. He’s played the part of a high-IQ forward prospect with major upside and is also an excellent student off the floor.
We talked with Smith about his recruitment and his game as he updated Stockrisers.com.
Which schools are heavily involved?
“Arkansas, North Carolina, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, and Baylor.”
Who are some of the newer schools in the mix?
“Virginia, Butler, and Georgia.”
As far as the schools go, how is each school approaching your recruitment?
“Michigan, Vandy, and Illinois see me as a hybrid and very versatile player and feel I can make an impact immediately. Stanford and Arkansas also stay in contact a lot and keep up with me and update me on their current activities.”
Any idea on a current commitment timeline?
“May commit prior to the beginning of my senior season or after the summer. Not really for certain.”
For those who don’t know Colin Smith, describe your game?
“A lot of people use positions to describe players, I consider myself just a “Basketball Player”. Plug me in anywhere and watch me work. Consider myself a swiss army knife type of player and look to fill the stat sheets each night to get the win for my team.”
Season expectations with St. Marks this season?
“We hope to repeat as state champions but our governing body has stated they are not allowing a championship this year. We will be supplementing games with my AAU Director Vonzelle Thomas since so many of our games and events have been canceled.”
