When it comes to 2028 prospect Payton Wilson of Holy Cross (NY) and the PSA Cardinals, one word consistently comes up: relentless.
Wilson put together an impressive summer, earning invitations to both Nike Elite 100 and the Pangos All-American Camp. Wilson also just had a 21-point double-double [10 rebounds] at Peach Jam.
Throughout the live period, he established himself as a high-motor forward who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. His relentless approach on the glass, ability to score at multiple levels, and defensive versatility have made him one of the more intriguing prospects in the Class of 2028.
The rising junior starred at Holy Cross in Queens this past season, competing in one of New York's premier high school basketball leagues, in a conference that consistently produces Division I talent. Wilson appears well on his way to joining that list.
His recruitment has continued to gain momentum. Wilson already holds scholarship offers from programs including Seton Hall, UAB, and St. Bonaventure, while additional schools have entered the mix since the June 15 contact period opened for the Class of 2028.
Among the programs that have reached out are Florida State, Seton Hall, UAB, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Utah, Brown, Florida A&M, Notre Dame, and several others.
Wilson took the time to discuss his recruitment after Peach Jam with Stockrisers.com.
Which schools are heavily involved?
“Right now it’s mainly Boston College, Notre Dame, and Utah.”
Have any newer schools shown interest?
“I’ve been told by my coaches that other schools were interested, but they haven’t contacted me yet. Schools like St. John’s, Marquette, and Villanova.”
What are your overall thoughts on Boston College, and what is the pitch?
“I like Boston College overall. They’re pitching to me that they really love my game and they think I would be a good fit for the program.”
How about Notre Dame? Thoughts on them?
“I also like Notre Dame as well. They’re pitching to me that they like my game as well and that they will start heavily recruiting me as I enter my junior season.”
Utah?
“I haven’t had too much personal contact with them yet, but they do send me encouraging messages every day.”
And how would you best describe your game?
“I would describe my game as a stretch four that can shoot, rebound, and finish through contact very well.”
