Four-star junior Christian Winborne on the verge of breakout
If we use the word breakout, it’s a term we use when a prospect catches his major break and showcases his abilities, and gets rewarded for it. Christian Winborne is a 6-foot-2 lead guard from Baltimore, MD. He entered the summer rated as a three-star prospect but showcased his talent in camps and scrimmages and was able to bolster his stock drastically and is now a high-major priority.
Winborne holds offers from LSU, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Northwestern, Seton Hall, Harvard, Penn, Xavier, UMass, and several others. He’s not only proven himself on the court but off the court, he excels in the classroom and is a high-character prospect.
Stockrisers.com and Winborne discussed his recruitment, his game, and his expectations for this season.
Which schools are remaining in serious contact.
“Currently all the schools recruiting me have stayed involved. I hear from each school at least once or twice a week and mainly just check on me to see what I’m working on, to see if we are having a high school season, and we have talked about me as a person. Building a relationship on and off the court is something they emphasize.”

Any newer schools to enter the mix in your recruitment?
“As for new schools, Seton Hall and Northwestern have been reaching out to me and providing a new perspective on how I’d fit in their program. They keep telling me it’s a two-way street and how both of us could improve. I also got some new schools calling.”
How are the zoom calls going, breakdown of what schools are showing you?
“The zoom calls have been going really well. After talking about regular stuff, we watch my film and see how I could fit in their system. It seems the coaches love how I play in the ball screen scenario, they tell me that I really excel in reading the screen and making a play out of it, whether that be hitting the screener, finding the open man, or shooting the jump shot. They love my competitiveness, how I play on both ends of the floor, and the fact I can score and facilitate at my position.”
Discuss your game, which players do you watch film on and how do you use that?
“I would say my game is a mixture of point and shooting guard. My dad mainly has me watching Kenny Anderson, but of course, I love watching Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Anthony Edwards, and Rocket Watts, those are just a few names. I try to take something from each player and put it in my game. I can score on all three levels, especially in the midrange. I could get to the bucket and also shoot the three. Also, I’m a willing passer, I believe putting confidence in my guys makes it easier for everyone.”
In one sentence, give me your expectations for this upcoming season.
“I really just want to go out there and kill everything and win a championship for my high school.”
