Damian Mojica drawing tons of high-major attention, talks recruitment
Damian Mojica took a major step forward this past season at The Masters School (NY), and that momentum carried into the summer with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit.
The 6-foot-8 rising junior possesses an impressive skill set for his size. His elite passing ability and feel as a playmaker allow him to consistently create opportunities for his teammates, while his three-point shooting makes him a dangerous offensive weapon.
This summer with PSA, Mojica averaged 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting nearly 37% from three-point range.
He also excelled during NEPSAC summer play, averaging nearly 20 points per game while continuing to shoot the ball effectively from beyond the arc. His offensive game continues to evolve, and he appears poised to make another significant leap heading into his junior season.
His recruitment has gained considerable momentum, with high-major programs beginning to prioritize him and several already extending scholarship offers. Since the June 15 contact period opened for the Class of 2028, Mojica has heard from Syracuse, Hofstra, Little Rock, East Carolina, Notre Dame, Towson, Boston University, Oral Roberts, Kennesaw State, Stanford, Fairleigh Dickinson, Buffalo, Chattanooga, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Delaware, Norfolk State, Virginia, Illinois, Wake Forest, Minnesota, Purdue, and Kansas State.
He discussed his recruitment after Peach Jam with Stockrisers.com.
Have any new schools entered the mix?
“Since Peach Jam, Purdue and Kansas State have reached out.”
Thoughts on Syracuse and what have they pitched?
“I love the relationship I have with Syracuse so far. Coach Lee and Coach McNamara have been super supportive of my growth so far. They’ve offered me a scholarship and have expressed their want for me.”
How about Forbes and Wake Forest?
“I haven’t gotten the chance to talk to Coach Forbes yet, but similarly to Syracuse, they’ve expressed a want for me as well from Coach Friedman.”
What is Virginia Tech pitching to you?
“Coach Byers and I have kept in touch, and he showed up to multiple of my AAU games and likewise wants me to join their program and make an immediate impact.”
And what are both Purdue and Kansas State saying?
“Right now, Purdue is building a strong relationship with my family and keeping in touch. Kansas State reached out to me after EYBL and said they really liked my game.”
Have you talked about planning any visits with any schools?
“I have not planned any visits this summer. I took a visit to Syracuse, but a couple of schools have reached out and want me to take an unofficial visit this fall.”
How would you best describe your game?
“I’d say I’m versatile. I feel like I’m comfortable in any situation coach puts me in. A couple of my strengths are my IQ, defending, and scoring.”
How do you want to improve your game this offseason?
“This offseason I’m really working on improving my jump shot because I feel like that’s one of the key things to further develop to take my game to the next level.”
