This spring, Roddy Gayle Jr. told me that he would prefer to take his visits before committing, but, a close bond made during the COVID-19 pandemic with Ohio State’s Chris Holtmann has led to the commitment of Gayle Jr, he told Stockrisers.com.

Gayle Jr. recently cut his list to six schools and that list included UConn, Marquette, Syracuse, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, and the Buckeyes.

But why the Buckeyes early for him?

Gayle Jr: “The relationship I have with Ohio states staff is what made Ohio State so special to me, and also I already been on a visit there so I understood the campus and play style.”

Why commit before the start of junior year?

Gayle Jr: “I committed early because I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time recruiting me when I knew what I wanted.”

Describe your relationship with Chris Holtmann

Gayle Jr: “Coach Holtmann is a great man. There were times where I forgot he was recruiting me and times where we weren’t even talking about Ohio State.”

How long have you known?

Gayle Jr: “Before I made my list I knew where I wanted to go, plus COVID wouldn’t allow me to visit any other schools so I felt why should I wait if I know where I wanna be.”

Who helped impact your decision?

Gayle Jr: “I knew it was the best choice for me when I asked all my coaches who ever coached me and they told me nothing but great things, like how well the system fits me and the development they have.”
