Four-star junior Donald Hand Jr. talks his recruitment

Donald Hand Jr. has become a popular recruit this summer and he holds more than 10 scholarship offers and is rated as a four-star recruit by several outlets.

The 6-foot-5 combo guard is from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is the son of former Virginia star Donald Hand Sr. He attends Landstown school and was recently invited to Wootten’s McDonald All-American combine evaluation camp, where he was one of 50 junior’s in attendance.

Hand discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com.


Which schools have extended a scholarship offer to you?

Hand Jr: “UConn, Maryland, NC State, LSU, Virginia Tech, ODU, VCU, Clemson, Hampton, South Carolina, Louisville, UVA, USF, Cincinnati, Princeton, Duquesne, Unc Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Norfolk State, Georgia, TCU, Mount St Mary’s & Robert Morris.”

What about your current interests?

Hand Jr: “Schools that haven’t offered that speak with regularly are Louisville, Cinncinati, Pittsburgh, USF, Princeton, Duquesne, Virginia, UNC Charlotte.”

How are the virtual meetings going, you had one with Maryland recently.

Hand Jr: “Virtual visits have been really good. I’ve had visits with Maryland, Virginia Tech, UConn & Louisville. Maryland talked about how I play and being a bigger guard is what they like. They let their guards play and be aggressive. They talked about the Big Ten and campus living.”

Now, breaking down some schools. Thoughts on Virginia Tech?

Hand Jr: “Va-Tech talked about play in the ACC. They are excited about where their program is headed and getting someone like me is important and they really like how I play.”

UConn?

Hand Jr: “UConn is moving back to the Big East and really excited about recruiting me. They said they recruit guys they expect to come in and play and they talked about all the great guards that have come out of UConn.”

What about another ACC program in Louisville?

Hand Jr: “Louisville loves my size. They really like big guards and they like how I play. They talked about the history of the program and the new facilities.”

Describe your game.

Hand Jr: “I describe my game as a big guard who does whatever to win. A team player who likes to get everyone involved and loves to play defense.”

Season expectations?

Hand Jr: “I want to win a State Championship and get better as a team.”
