Between being a member of the Albany City Rocks and also one of the key members of prep powerhouse Brewster Academy, the future is looking really bright for five-star sophomore Michai White.

The 2028 prospect and 6-foot-1 guard burst onto the scene this summer while playing up with 17U, and had some big-time performances during EYBL play.

White averaged 14.5 points per game on the 17U circuit just months after finishing his freshman campaign, which is super impressive.

Several things stand out with White that separate him from the other talents in the 2028 class. This summer, his ball-handling and scoring ability were showcased during EYBL play.

I think transitioning to this sophomore campaign at Brewster was a goal of White’s to play off the ball a bit and get better from that aspect. In addition, constant improvement on the defensive end has been evident following a four-steal game last week.

With his success this past summer playing with 17U, schools began to pursue the young and talented New Jersey native.

White discussed his recruitment & more with Stockrisers.com.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“I have offers from Louisville, Auburn, Penn State, Oklahoma State, VCU, Northwestern, Stanford, UNLV, and others.”

Any new schools showing interest?

“UNLV is the most recent, Syracuse.”

Thoughts on Oklahoma State?

“They have a style that mimics my game really well. They play fast and get up and down the floor while playing hard. They also tend to give their guards space, and development is what I’m hearing, and that's what resonates with me the most. I’m grateful for the interest that they’ve shown in me as well.”

How about Louisville?

“Louisville is a historically great program that I respect a lot, and I like the process from the outside looking in, especially Mikel Brown Jr’s journey with them and their style of play. They give their guards a space to grow and become what they need to become, which resonates with me because I’m the type of player who loves getting better. I’m grateful that they’re considering me.”

How about your new Syracuse interest?

“The interest came through at their Elite Camp towards the end of the summer, and they mentioned they were looking at my progression as a player. I’m following everything they’re doing with the team and their guard play with players like Kiyan Anthony.”

Auburn?

“Auburn is a school I've been watching closely, especially because they play freshmen. Watching how they use Tahaad Pettiford and how they let their guards play freely, which is similar to my playstyle. Very happy they picked me, and I believe they see a fit in my style of play.”

Where has your game improved this season?

“I think I’m better at picking my spots on the floor. Also, I’ve been playing off the ball more this season, and it’s helped me move without the ball in my hand, cutting and all that. My defense has improved a lot, and generally, I’m getting better at letting the game come to me.”

What are your overall goals for this season?

“I wanna win Chipotle Nationals, win EYBL scholastic, and overall become a more efficient shooter.”
