Four-star junior Wesley Cardet Jr. talks recruitment, new programs involved
Last month, Wesley Cardet Jr. was just an underlooked prospect who held just three offers in his recruitment. Fast forward to now, basketball is back and Cardet Jr. is showing his worth as a scorer but also as a high-major recruit.
The 6-foot-6 wing has played phenomenal since returning to the court this past week. This weekend, Cardet Jr. scored 31 points and shot nearly 70% from the field. College coaches are now keening in on him and I believe we’re amidst a national breakout.
On Wednesday, Cardet Jr. completed two virtual visits. He started it off with Alabama’s Nate Oats and Bryan Hodgson. The Tide has completed several calls over the past few weeks and has made him an instant priority. Over the past few months, they’ve been impressive on the recruiting trail.
To cap off the night, Xavier’s Travis Steele virtually met with Cardet Jr. – the Muskateers are one of the newer programs involved here, I expect more with them over the next few weeks but no offer has been extended just yet.
Among the other programs involved: “Iona, Maryland, K-State, Iowa State, Samford, Rutgers, St. John's, amongst others,” Cardet Jr. said.
Iona is a program that has been targeting him since head staffer Rick Pitino first landed the job at the New York City program. They’ve completed several zoom calls together and when able to, possibly get Cardet Jr. on a visit to campus.
The newest programs involved are St. John’s and DePaul, both of whom reached out to him after they watched him score 31 points the other day. Mike Anderson extended him a scholarship offer, as for DePaul, they had an assistant reach out to alert Cardet Jr. that they will begin recruiting him.
He’s taking the process extremely slow, he said. He told Stockrisers.com that he won’t even cut his list to ten programs until November, then once again in January, and to cap things off, he said that as of right now he will announce his college choice in Late-April.
“To many players and coaches are leaving,” he said on why he will decide late. This is better for both him and the programs who want to see more gameplay from him. I fully expect more programs to get involved with him as the weeks go by.
