Five-star junior Deron Rippey Jr. talks his recruitment, season goals
Blair Academy’s Deron Rippey Jr., a five-star guard out of the 2026 class, has had one heck of a summer. He started early in the Spring with outings at USA Basketball, where he was a U17 finalist, and a great showing at the Top-100 camp in Kissimmee, FL.
It continued all summer long with New Heights and his Blair Academy squad. Despite his elite ability to lead an offense and create for others, Rippey Jr. showed off his all-around skill on the EYBL circuit this summer, averaging 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Rippey Jr. has asserted himself as one of the nation’s best guards. His court vision and ability to be a floor general separate him from many. Beyond the playmaking ability, he’s much improved his shooting and has a quick twitch when he can burst to the rim. For his size, you can’t undermine his ability to leap and punch one down.
The 6-foot-1 floor general had a spectacular opening night at Blair Academy this week, stuffing the stat sheet: with 13 points, six assists, five steals, and four boards.
In addition, he also officially visited Louisville nearly two weeks ago for the program’s matchup with Tennessee. This took place after two unofficial visits to Villanova and Rutgers.
His recruitment continues to add suitors. His father told Stockrisers.com that Kansas was also in this week for his first game and they are now involved in his recruitment.
We discussed those heavily involved and he talked about this upcoming season with Stockrisers.com. His main goal for his junior campaign? “Win a championship with my brothers.”
Which schools are heavily involved?
“Illinois, Kansas, Rutgers, Louisville, Seton Hall, Stanford, Villanova, Syracuse, St. John’s, Purdue, have been very active.”
Any newer schools?
“Alabama and Kansas have been the most recent.”
How was your Louisville visit and what is the staff's message to you?
“My trip to Louisville was nice. I saw a competitive game and a cultured locker room. The message to me was they like lead guards who can touch the paint and get other people involved. They also like shooting a lot of threes. They gave me a great time.”
Thoughts on Kansas?
“Kansas is a highly-touted program every year. So them being able to come out and begin the recruiting process with me is huge and I’m grateful. I love how they compete and hold winning as the standard.”
How about a program like Rutgers, do five-star guys like Harper and Bailey leave an impression?
“Yeah, when I see how well they let players like [Dylan] Harper and [Ace] Bailey showcase their talent it stands out to me.”
Are any other visits planned?
“Nothing is on the board right now. I’m locked in with Blair and the school season so far.”
What are your goals for this season?
“Win states and compete for the national prep title with my brothers.”
What are you hoping to improve on this season?
“Being more aggressive and becoming a better leader, always.”
