Top-50 junior Jayden Johnson talks in-state programs, visit plans
Louisville, KY native and 6-foot-6 shooting guard Jayden Johnson remains amongst the top 50 recruits in the 2026 class.
The Trinity Academy and MoKan Elite product has kept his reputation as one of the most skilled guards in his class and this has been expected for years for Johnson who has played on the varsity level since he was in middle school.
Considering his talent and work ethic, many insist that Johnson is primed for a massive junior year, being a leader and the go-to guy for Trinity Academy.
His recruitment reflects how he’s viewed around the country. Both local programs, Louisville and Kentucky, are in pursuit, even though both have new coaching staffs. He recently visited Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals for the program's annual Louisville Live event.
Johnson sat down with Stockrisers.com to discuss his recruitment, including a possible upcoming visit during Thanksgiving break.
Which schools are heavily involved?
“USC, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Indiana, Illinois, Louisville, and Kentucky.”
Any new schools?
“Arizona, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Utah.”
What’s Louisville’s pitch and how quickly has the staff made you a local priority?
“Really no pitch. Just that they view me as a pro and that I would be a big addition to the program. They think I can help get other top kids here.”
How about Kentucky, how has the new staff been recruiting you?
“They just told me that they’re interested and after the 2025 class is done they will be looking forward to come watching me play more this season.”
How about Indiana, thoughts on them and the coaching staff?
“Those are my guys. Coach Woodson and Jordan [Hulls] are great. They have been recruiting me since I was in the 8th grade, so it’s always been a blessing. They think highly of my game and how it can translate to Indiana basketball.”
Are you done with visits? If not, where else will you be visiting?
“I’m going to Cincinnati during Thanksgiving break. Might go on some during Christmas break and looking to visit Marquette, Notre Dame, DePaul, and Illinois.”
Lastly, how would you describe your game?
“I’m an unselfish three-level scorer. I play on both ends of the court, I have a ready mid-range shot and can shoot the three ball. I’m also very athletic.”
