Top-50 incoming junior Shelton Henderson talks recruitment

It’s without a doubt that Texas basketball has risen as one of the nation’s top basketball states in the entire nation. Every year we see not just one or two guys come out of the state that dominates, but multiple guys come out of the state of Texas every year that just translate at both the college and pro level.

Texas has another one folks. Three-man, Shelton Henderson, a 6-foot-5 wing from Bellaire, Texas, is in my opinion, blossoming as one of the best two-way prospects in the 2025 class. An active defender and also a multi-dimensional scorer, Henderson has asserted himself as a threat on both ends of the court.

Henderson was one of Peach Jam’s most efficient players, according to Nike EYBL. Out of the E16s, he shot 56% from the field and averaged nearly 16 points per game this year at Peach Jam. In addition, at US Open Basketball recently at the NCAA College Basketball Academy in Memphis, JL3 won the title and Henderson was a vocal point of that.

He also looks to have a spectacular junior campaign. Last year, as a key member of Bellaire’s rotation, he helped them to a 17-8 record and was once more a threat on both ends and looks to evolve during a huge junior season.

Henderson got with Stockrisers.com to discuss his recruitment and his game.

Which schools are the heaviest involved?

“I would say LSU, TCU, and Houston are on me the heaviest.”

And who are the newer interests or the schools showing interest?

“Arkansas, Texas, and Texas Tech are showing a lot of interest.”

What would you say is LSU’s pitch to you and your thoughts on them?

“Their pitch to me is that they’re going to develop me and help me achieve my ultimate goal. I like the program and the culture they have down there and really the area as a whole.”

How about Houston and what they’ve done as a program recently?

“I really like Houston and plus it's the hometown school. The program has really come together and I like the toughness they play with and they play together at all times.”

And what about Texas?

“They haven’t offered me yet but Coach Terry stays on top of me and hits me up a lot. I like what they have down there and I like how they develop players, and the coaching staff is also really nice up there.”

Are you working on any visits?

“Texas, TCU, LSU, and Houston should all be soon.”

How would you break down your on-court mentality?

“I would just describe it as trying to dominate and play at my own pace and speed.”

Briefly describe your game.

“I attack downhill and I’m a playmaker.”
