Top-50 junior Dedan Thomas Jr. talks possible reclassification, visits

This has been quite the past few months for Liberty High School star Dedan Thomas Jr.

The 6-foot guard out of Nevada has been a very enticing prospect for coaches in the 2024 class, so much so that he’s being seen as a guy who can make the jump from his current class into the 2023 class.

Nevada’s top-ranked prospect in the junior class is well-regarded for his High-IQ, but also his ability to be a scoring threat.

The success started when he showed flashes all season long during his sophomore season at Liberty. He finished with totals of 13.3 points, and 5.6 assists, and shot nearly 50% from the field. Pretty good from the starting PG, who played a culminating part of a state championship run this past season.

His recruitment has been a reflection of his game. He has offers from programs in a variety of conferences. Varying from UCLA to Virginia, to Florida, and a whole bunch more.

Thomas Jr. discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com. Including more on a possible reclass, upcoming visits, and more.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“Schools heavily involved are LSU, UCLA, USC, Florida, UNLV, Houston, Gonzaga, Arizona, Miami, and Virginia.”

Any new schools?

“Washington is the newest school.”

You just took an official to visit, briefly what are your thoughts on them?

“Houston is a great school. I love their coaching staff, as well as their style of play, and their culture.”

Gonzaga?

“Also a very good school. I’ve built a very good relationship with them as well. Their style of play also fits my game.”

What about Arizona?

“I have built a great relationship with them as well. They love to play my style of play and the culture is great.”

And how about the other programs heavily involved?

“All the schools that have been recruiting me I’ve built great relationships with, plus their style of play fits my game.”

Visit schedule?

“The visits I have set are Arizona for an unofficial at the end of October and Gonzaga, also unofficial, on November 5th.”

Is reclassifying [to 2023] still an option?

“Reclassing is still an option. Many schools want me to reclass up and go a year early.”
