Chaminade-Julienne’s George Washington III, a top-50 prospect in the 2023 class, is down to five schools, he told Stockrisers.com.

He had pledged a verbal commitment to Ohio State on November 3rd last year and recently reopened his recruitment on September 5th. The suitors immediately filed in and now he’s cut that list to five.

Washington III, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound guard, is down to Louisville, Michigan, Virginia, Dayton, and Wake Forest.

He broke down each finalist for Stockrisers.com.

Louisville:

“With Louisville, I feel like their program, their history, the legacy that Louisville basketball has is something hard to beat, something hard to match. On top of that, with the coaches they have coming in with KP, [Danny] Manning, Nolan Smith, I think it’s an insane level of pro-level, basketball knowledge. Personnel-wise, that school has turned into something that can really fit my game and playstyle wise too.”

Wake Forest:

“With Wake Forest, I think playstyle and style-of-play is a major thing for them too. They’re a very fast-paced team, scoring wise, they love to score. Coach Forbes lets his guards play, that's a big attraction for them. Wake Forest is a beautiful school too, a great academic school. I just like them all-around, that could be a great fit for my game.”

Michigan:

“Michigan, you know it’s kinda been crazy. Kinda crazy being committed to Ohio State, de-committing, then having them [Michigan] on my list. I feel like what Coach Howard has as far in terms of NBA experience is great. What he has and his staff has. They really work for a pro-style, NBA-level type of offense, with that type of feel to it because that’s what is coaching them. I feel like that could be a great fit for me too, personally.”

Virginia:

“Virginia, I mean Coach Bennett is a hall-of-fame coach. There are not many coaches out there that have done what he has done or can do what he has done or will do what he’s done. He’s a great person. The school of Virginia holds a lot of weight itself, Coach Bennett has put a lot of pros in the league and pros recently, and there’s a handful of guys that are still doing their thing in the league that went or graduated from Virginia that are still doing there thing and that’s big.”

Dayton:

“With Dayton, I feel like they’re the only mid-major on the list, but I don’t feel like you can call them a mid-major with the level of talent that they have. Coach Grant is another NBA guy who spent time in the league playing, Coach Greer has spent time overseas. They have a ton of basketball experience too on their staff. I feel like talent-wise they’re up there with Power Five schools. Their win over Kansas this past season highlights that too. Playstyle wise and style of play that could be a fit too.”

Extra Tidbits

Commitment timeline:

“We’re still getting some things together.”

Says he’s taking an unofficial to one of the five schools this weekend but is undecided.

Has emphasized fit, he wants to find the program with the best fit with style of play.
