Five-star junior Ja'Kobe Walter discusses recruitment, Texas hoops

Texas has made its case for having one of the strongest basketball areas in the nation.

I asked Top-15 recruit and junior Ja’Kobe Walter if Texas is the best basketball state, his answer?

“Easily.”

As for the future classes in Texas, the 2022 and 2023 classes are screaming potential. The 2023 class has one of its headliners in the talented Walter.

Your prototypical (currently) 6-foot-5 guard, Walter oozes potential and it starts with his offensive presence. He could score at all three levels and read a defense really well. His length at the guard position is also scary from an opposing team's perspective. Walter is still growing and already has a large wingspan for a guard.

Originally from Alabama, where he was born, Walter now resides in Texas where he has made his case to become one of the top-rated basketball prospects in America.

As for his recruitment, Walter has already taken official visit trips to both Alabama and Auburn. He continues his high school season now but has been very vocal on the fact that he’d like to take more of his visits at some point.

It’s to no surprise that he’s also garnering interest from some of the nation’s top schools. Most recently Gonzaga has entered the fro.

He discussed that to an extent, in addition to the rest of his recruitment in his chat with Stockrisers.com.

Which schools are heavily involved in your recruitment?

“Texas, Baylor, Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas, Alabama, and Gonzaga shows a lot of interest but they haven’t offered.”

How was Auburn?

“Atmosphere was crazy had a good time there and yeah it was really all the coaches pitching [the school].”

What was the message to you?

“I can be a big part of their future success and they love my scoring ability."

Alabama?

“I like their offense and the way they play. I could see myself in their offense.”

How was that official visit?

“Once again their culture is up there, with a good atmosphere on campus, and it was dope. They have high-intensity practice that I mess with as well.”

Thoughts on Baylor?

“That was my first offer and they have been showing love since the start. Been there plenty of times and it’s lit every time. Love the way they play defense and let their guards rock out.”

Visits you want to take?

“Nothing set up right now. I’m thinking Arkansas, Kansas, and maybe Oregon.”

Now, how do you feel your season has been going?

“Definitely better than last year. I feel more experienced and learned a lot since last season. I feel like I took my scoring to a new level and impacted the games in different ways.”

Describe your game?

“Two-way player that likes to shoot the three, but still an all-around scorer.”
