Five-star junior Brandon Gardner talks visits, list cut soon?
One of the hottest commodities in the 2023 class hails at Word of God (N.C.) Christian Academy.
His name is Brandon Gardner.
I’m sure many of you are familiar with the super-dynamic, 6-foot-7, dynamo of a prospect. He’s made drastic leaps in the game of basketball since he started playing the game just about four years ago. College coaches are raving about this kid, it’s simple.
One word i’d use: Upside.
Coaches like the fact that Gardner is proving to be more than just a freak athlete, he’s been able to improve very important aspects of his game and is evidently working on improving his skillset. Gardner has been working on his three-point shot a lot.
He’s also becoming a threat off the dribble and has caused havoc for defenses all season long.
My personal favorite part of Gardner’s game is his defense. His ability to effect every single shot around the rim and be a menace in the paint, it’s just very fun to watch. Like I mentioned earlier, his high motor and his athletic ability also is beneficial for him on the defensive end and that has been made clear.
His upside and terrific play has been reflected in his recruitment.
Once more, college coaches continue to rave about Gardner. He is fresh off two official visits, one being to Auburn, the other with St. John’s. In addition, he told Stockrisers.com that he’s expected to visit Ole Miss on February 26th.
Here’s Gardner’s full conversation with Stockrisers.com
Which schools are heavily involved?
"Auburn, St. John’s, Alabama, Kansas, NC State, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Georgetown."
How was your St. John’s visit and your overall thoughts on there program?
"I enjoyed my visit to St. John’s. New York is different. Madison Square Garden is different, a lot of people don’t even know about the history [of MSG] and I could be playing in that place. There is a lot of history and brotherhood there."
What did you think about the game you watched and the system they have?
“As far as the games, they run a fast pace offense and that’s what I’m used too. They need a shock factor like me.”
Your overall thoughts on Auburn and how was the official?
“Auburn has a unique program as well. They offer a good education, SEC schools, and an unmatched high quality basketball program. The visit was great I feel like they could definitely develop me into a league player.”
What’s your next visit?
“Ole Miss on February 26th."
Thoughts on Ole Miss?
“They came at me very early in my recruiting process and I have a great relationship with Coach Hamilton and Coach Kermit Davis.”
How are you going to approach the recruiting process as far as timetables?
"Every school is unique. Each have something very important to offer and that’s a good education. I will make my announcement after Peach Jam and i’m looking to drop my top five in early March."
Give me the best scouting report on Brandon Gardner.
“I’m a very long and athletic forward that can do it all. I’m a mismatch on both sides of the floor and I block shots at a great rate and I can make shots. I will dunk on you and let you know about it. I’m a dog on the court. I’m working to become a better ball handler and more consistent shooter.”
What areas are you looking to improve in?
"Ball handling, decision making and on-ball defense."
