Four-star junior Brandon White updates his recruitment

The 2023 class is flooded with talent at the big man spot. Brandon White is another big man that is being highly touted by coaches and is receiving a ton of attention this fall. The 6-foot-10, 205-pound center out of North Carolina, announced his transfer from Winston-Salem Christian this summer and transitioned to Kanye West’s very own Donda Academy.

He leads a very dynamic skill set and it’s a majority if not all of the reason that White is being pursued by several high-major schools. White is a very athletic big man that is going to cause you issues in the paint. As far as defensive skills go, obviously, he’s got size and length and he prides himself on using it, making him lethal as a rim protector.

White attended North Rowan (NC.) for his first two years of high school. He saw tons of success and that includes playoff runs in the NCHSAA for his first two seasons. He’s a prospect that oozes with potential at the five spots and I believe he has the potential to bloom and eventually make his way as a top-tier guy, especially a run for that top spot in North Carolina.

He was once a member of the 2022 class, but, with age and other factors, it was the best decision for White to reclassify to the 2023 class. He has dealt with an injury since arriving at Donda but has since returned and has been a very important piece for Donda.

In addition, White has turned himself into one of the more intimidating paint presences in all of high school basketball, as he averages nearly 2 blocks per game.

Stockrisers.com talked with White, we discussed his recruitment briefly and asked him to break down his game.

Who’s heavily involved in your recruitment?

“It’s been a little more slowly after my injury.”

Are any of the same schools in the mix now that you’re healthy, if so, who?

“Illinois, Georgia Tech, USC, UCLA, Georgia, Florida State, Providence, Marquette, UConn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Clemson.”

They’ve all reached out post-injury?

“Yes.”

So, talk to Illinois, thoughts on them and their program?

“It’s a great school that also has a really good coach. The development part is rising and the fan base keeps growing, I definitely like it.”

Is what Kofi [Cockburn] doing there impress you as someone who runs the paint as well?

“Yeah I like that, he’s nice. I feel like my perimeter skills for my size too would help me work to be better than him if I can keep getting them better as I grow.”

How about Providence, thoughts on their play this season?

“It’s been really good. I love how they go to the bigs the very first play and feed them and work inside out.”

How’s your relationship with Ed Cooley?

“Like a best friend to me.”

Florida State?

“Those are my guys.”

Think you’ll visit there?

“Yeah just got to find a date.”

Describe your game.

“I’m a shot-blocker with an athletic, big frame. I can move like a guard, can pass, make the three, and finish. I’m very aggressive, got good footwork, just really a dog.”
