The state of Texas continues to assert itself as one of the most loaded basketball states in the entire country. I can truly say that anytime I watch a prospect from any city in Texas, I’m left impressed.

That’s the exact reaction I had the first time I watched Richardson’s Rylan Griffen his freshman year.

Griffen is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Richardson, Texas. This season, he’s established himself as one of the best two guards in the entire state and his season averages include 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. Griffen, alongside fellow Top-50 junior Cason Wallace, has helped lead Richardson to an astonishing season

Griffen took away District MVP and also helped lead Richardson to a state semi-final appearance which happens to be the school's first since 1987. Griffen remained consistent all season long and continued to show improvement as each game went on.

As far as where things stand with his recruitment, he remains wide-open and is hearing from a wide variety of programs varying from all different conferences. In addition, he has added two official visits to his schedule (!!!!!).

He discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com and which programs are heavily involved.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“The teams still in the mix are Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech for right now. I like all those schools a lot and I’ll keep my eye out on all of them.”

Any new schools?

“New schools are Alabama and Texas. I had talked a lot to the last Texas staff but they got a new one and coach Jerrance Howard is one of my favorite coaches so we just talk about that and he talks about how he wants me to visit there. Coach Hodgson from Alabama is also one of my favorite assistants and he also told me he wants me to come down. Those are two really good evolving programs.”

You will visit Kansas State, what are your thoughts on them?

“Kansas State was on me early. I have to visit there, they were one of the first schools to believe in me and coach Southwell, I’ve known him a long time and he’s really cool so I’m excited to get down there and see what they have.”

Same with Oklahoma State, you’ll visit, thoughts on them?

“Oklahoma State is cool too, I like them a lot. I switched AAU teams to a team in Oklahoma so they joke about me making Oklahoma my college location also. They both are really cool with some of the best head coaches in the game.”

How about both Alabama and Texas?

“Alabama is a school I like a lot. I watched them play and coach Hodgson thinks it would be a great fit. He thinks I can come in and thrive. Coach Howard from Texas also thinks I’d like their new system so it will be fun to see how things turn out.”
