Top-50 sophomore Chase Clemmons talks his recruitment
Chase Clemmons is one of those prospects that has started his high school career as a highly-touted prospect, but, has remained consistent in keeping that title. The 6-foot-1 guard out of Atlanta, GA is currently attending Mount Vernon Presbyterian.
He’s had an early yet successful high school career in the ATL and has thrived on the recruiting side of things. Clemmons holds double-digit scholarship offers to enter his junior year which is a great sign for the skilled guard prospect. Amongst his offers? Xavier, Tennessee State, Nebraska, Georgia, and several others.
Clemmons is what we call these days, appointment-television. Whether it’s his lightning speed, his pure shooting touch and scoring ability, or, his playmaking, Clemmons is a winner at the end and will carve out any role needed in order for his team to score some victories.
Just moments after a 45-minute workout, Clemmons called Stockrisers.com and discussed his recruitment, how his game evolved, and a full scouting report on himself.
Which programs are heavily involved early on in your recruitment?
“There’s a lot of schools that been recruiting me heavily, schools like Houston, Memphis, Georgia, Tennessee State, Nebraska, and Xavier.”
Which schools have interest? Outside of the programs you’ve mentioned.
“Mizzou, Ole Miss, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Auburn, Georgia Tech.”
Let’s talk Georgia, what would it be like to stay there and play for Coach Crean?
“I think it would be cool to stay home and play for Tom Crean’s program. I have been watching them this season a lot, I think I could fit well in his system. I like the way he uses his point guards especially Sahvir Wheeler, I really like his game and I think our games are kinda alike.”
Let’s talk Nebraska. Your family Trey and Bryce, have they recruited you early? Thoughts on NU?
“Yeah, that’s family I talk to them all the time but they have talked to me about the program, but, yeah Coach Hoiberg and I had a zoom meeting about the way they play and he was telling me how he would use me in the offense. I like that they like to play up-tempo with three guards. They run a lot of screens to get open 3’s, but, I also think I could fit well in their program.”
Memphis, what are your thoughts on them and Penny Hardaway? What has he told you.
“I played there in summer league and I’ve always liked their facilities. It would be an honor to play under a legend like Penny Hardaway, he has told me he’s going to put the ball in my hand and let me play my game, also he told me he sees a lot of himself in me and how I play my game.”
Describe your game?
“I’m a poised Point Guard that remains calm under pressure. I’m explosive, always In attack mode but at the same time, reading the defense to exploit the weaknesses. I can shoot from anywhere on the court I’m really good at getting to my spots.
I can score at will. I have been told I am a dynamic playmaker. When I was growing up I always wanted to create for my teammates and not look for my shot enough; and then my dad transitioned me more into a scorer like his favorite player Allen Iverson.”
How has your game evolved this year?
“My vision and ability to lead a team has improved. Playing off the pick and roll has grown leaps and bounds. Plus reading third-level defenders is growing, also my ability to defend has grown this year.”
As far as your recruitment, how will you handle the process?
“I will continue to weigh my options and be thankful for everybody who shows me interest. I’ll lean on my parents and my two mentors Shelvin Mack and Tony Delk to help me make the best decisions.”
