FIU transfer Antonio Daye Jr. talks his new recruitment
One word to describe the transfer portal over the last nine months? Active. Tons of names have been on the move and a transfer market is a popular option in college basketball now. It saw another intriguing name enter this week and that prospect is FIU’s Antonio Daye Jr.
During this season, Daye Jr. averaged 17.5 points, four rebounds, and nearly 2.5 steals per game. He is an elite defender who is also very skilled on the offensive end as well. Despite not being on the most talented team in the world, Daye Jr. proved his worth and led the team in three major categories including points and steals.
Stockrisers.com was the first to report the suitors to reach out to Daye Jr. and he discussed his new recruitment and his game with Stockrisers.com.
Which programs have inquired in you since you entered the portal?
“NC State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Mizzou, Cincinnati, USF, UNCW, UNCG, NCCU, NC&T, Siena, Southern Illinois, Virginia Tech, Valpo, Cal State, Murray State, CSF, and St. John’s.”
Which head coaches have you talked to?
“NCCU, Arkansas, and I’m expecting a call from NC State’s Kevin Keatts either tonight or tomorrow.”
NC State, what would it be like to transfer there and be back at home?
“I mean if that happens that would be really cool to be able to be 20 minutes from where I grew up, and to play in the ACC and be able to compete at the highest level is also a big plus.”
How was your talk with Arkansas, what have they been saying?
“They’re just saying they like my game and need a tough point guard. Also just trying to build a relationship with me and see if it would be a place I would consider calling home for the next two years.”
Where do things stand with your game and what needs improvement?
“Right now, I’m just focusing on working on the things I think my game could really use improvement on, working on the shot a lot. I don’t think I’m a bad shooter I just need to be more consistent, and also I just been working on being even more explosive and staying strong.”
What will you bring to the program that lands you?
“I think I’m gonna bring a lot of energy on both ends of the floor to a school and also a person who can pass the ball really good when put in the right system also someone who just has a winning mindset.”
Any idea on when you want to take the next steps in your recruitment?
“I don’t have an exact date right now. I’m just trying to hear everybody out and see what I feel are the best options for me and then I’ll go from there and cut my list down.”
