Top-50 junior Noah Shelby updates his recruitment
Hands down, Texas is one of the most talented states in America skill-wise. In all classes, they’ve got tons of high-level talent and tons of excellent scorers that are being produced in the state. One of the best shooters in the country actually resides in Dallas, his name is Noah Shelby.
The 6-foot-3 guard attends Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas. He faces high-level competition and he has stayed consistent on all levels. On January 27th, I decided that I was going to watch Shelby, and oh man, he didn’t disappoint. He ended up finishing with 44 points (!!!) and he hit 13/25 shots he attempted in that game.
I had this to say after that outburst:
I think his ability to just score the ball and create space is where he thrives the most. He is also going to put up solid rebounding numbers every single night, he is an underrated rebounder at the guard position. Wednesday, Shelby had another excellent outing to continue his dominant junior season.
Shelby had 35 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his squad. He has asserted himself as one of the best scorers in America and in the state of Texas.
He leads high-major recruitment and I have no doubt on my mind that he will find his spot and thrive right when he touches a college campus. Shelby and I discussed his recruitment, plus, he gave Stockrisers.com a timeline on when he will trim down his long list of scholarships.
Which programs are heavily involved in your recruitment?
“Kansas, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Arizona, Mississippi State, Memphis, Auburn, Stanford, Baylor, and Texas are all in the mix still.”
Are any newer schools in contact with you?
“The only new school I’ve talked with is Virginia Tech.”
Texas, how is your relationship with Shaka Smart, and has their guard play intrigued you?
“The main coach I’ve been speaking with over there has been Coach KT Turner. I’ve known him for a long time, so he checks in often. I love how enthusiastic they are about the game. They play with a lot of energy.”
Kansas, they just sent Devon Dotson to the league. Has Coach Self compared you to any former players?
“Kansas has a great tradition of sending guards to the league and developing them while they are at Kansas. Coach Self hasn’t compared me to anybody, but he loves my shooting ability and says that it’s a skill that is needed to win championships.”
How about a program like Virginia, where do things stand with them, and has an offer been extended?
“They haven’t extended an offer yet, but I talk with Coach Bennett and Coach Getter regularly. We have already had a zoom call so I am familiar with the way they do things.”
Briefly, how do you feel you have been playing this season?
“Season has been going great for me personally. A couple of close losses, but our team is young so we will get better.”
Discuss your scoring ability.
“I think what separates me is my shooting ability, and I can really extend my range to beyond the NBA line. I can also get to my floater and draw fouls to get some free ones at the line.”
