Four-star incoming senior Triston Hawthorne is emerging in 2027 class

A breakout has come at the perfect time for Mississippi native Triston Hawthorne. The 6-foot-7 forward from South Jones High School in Ellisville has emerged this summer as one of the nation's most dominant paint presences.

After a productive junior season in which he averaged a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds per game, it was his rim protection that truly stood out. Hawthorne averaged an eye-popping 6.2 blocks per game while showcasing the high motor, athleticism, and ability to run the floor that make him such an intriguing prospect at his size.

If anyone was positioned to capitalize on a breakout summer on the AAU circuit, it was Hawthorne—and he wasted little time doing so.

During the Pro16 live period in Tulsa, his elite rim-protecting ability was on full display as he averaged a staggering 7.2 blocks per game. College programs quickly took notice, but it was his consistency throughout the summer on the defensive end that ultimately earned him the circuit's Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Hawthorne has now attracted interest from more than 20 Division I programs, with coaches valuing not only his ability to excel in a defined role but also the significant long-term upside he possesses on both ends of the floor.

After a breakout summer, Hawthorne recently talked with Stockrisers.com following new scholarship offers from Ole Miss and Providence.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“Houston, James Madison, Harvard, and UAB.”

Any new schools in the mix?

“Ole Miss and Providence.”

Thoughts on Ole Miss?

“I like the school and the culture. They also have a great [track] record of player development.”

Providence?

“I like how they are an elite team in their conference, and they usually have success in the postseason.”

How about Houston?

“They are also an elite program and known for having a tough culture. They’re coached by one of the best, Coach Sampson.”

Any visits lined up?

“Only have one official lined up, and that is with Houston.”

How would you best describe your game?

“Just to be a defensive threat and be effective in any way to help the team win.”
