Five-star junior Dakari Spear gives an update on his recruitment

Regarding the 2026 class, there’s no shortage of scorers whatsoever.

One of the most polished scorers? Dakari Spear.

Star shooting guard out of The Colony in Dallas, TX, has already asserted himself as one of the most elite bucket-getters in his class.

Before this season, The Colony yielded a 19-14 record during Spear’s freshman campaign. With the jolt Spear made after last season, you could presume that the school's record would take a jolt one year later, and it did.

Spear averaged over 20.5 points during his sophomore campaign on 43% shooting and was able to help lead his team to a 29-5 record, which helped Spear make an appearance on District’s 9-5A first-team. It’s safe to say he helped that squad make a significant jolt and looks to do so in his junior year.

The scoring prowess was on tap this summer as well. Spear averaged 14 points per game on a talented Drive Nation squad, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.

It was safe to say that the 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard proved himself to be a must-target in the 2026 class, and this was reflected over the past seven months as many schools entered the mix, many of whom offered Spear a scholarship.

Spear linked up with Stockrisers.com to discuss which programs entered the mix and gave some insight into his game.

Which schools have offered so far?

“LSU, TCU, Oklahoma State, Alabama, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State.”

And have any new schools entered the mix?

“There are a few schools like Kentucky, Miami, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma that I talk to that haven’t offered yet and are in the mix.”

Have you visited any campuses yet, or are you planning on doing so?

“I visited Texas A&M and Tennessee last year, but I'm working out scheduling more visits to take.”

Kentucky recently came to see you. What was your message, and what are your thoughts on it?

“Obviously, with Kentucky being the blue blood they are, I like how they carry themselves. Coach Alvin told me he’d be back out to catch some high school games, and they are recruiting me hard now.”

Which other schools have been in recently?

“Multiple schools have been in this week, like Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, and Miami.”

What are Syracuse’s thoughts on you, and will they be in to see you?

“They are looking for a time to come in. They think I’m a top recruit and key focus for them.”

How about Texas A&M, a school you’ve visited that’s in-state?

“They feel the same way about me as well. Love my game.”

How would you describe your game to those who don’t know you?

“Versatile, can score the ball well at all three levels, very high IQ, combo guard who can get scrappy on defense and push the break-off rebounds with good positional size.”

How will you try to improve your game this year?

“Improving my rebounding abilities and making my ball handle tighter, along with catch and shoot efficiency.”
