Marjon Beauchamp’s rise to projected first-round pick is one that prepared him for this very moment.

Beauchamp’s HS recruitment

In January of 2018, I watched Beauchamp score 43 points and connected on 10 three-pointers that game. In addition, Beauchamp was viewed as a five-star prospect that entire year.

Beauchamp was a Pac-12 priority and was in heavy pursuit by schools like Washington, USC, Arizona, Oregon State, and others. His options weren't limited to the Pac-12 though.

Michigan and Alabama entered his recruitment late as well.

Chameleon BX

Just one year and seven months removed from that 43-point outing (and his long recruitment), Beauchamp called me on August 1st, 2019, and announced on Stockrisers that he will opt to skip college, and will train for the 2021 NBA Draft with Chameleon BX, a 12-month training program founded by Frank Matrisciano.

Beauchamp and former five-star recruit Kyree Walker entered the program together.

Change Of Heart

Six months after opting into the Chameleon program, Beauchamp had a change of heart and decided to re-explore the college route.

On March 5th, 2021, Beauchamp began talking to colleges again. Arkansas, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, and Oregon State, all made a heavy pursuit. Arkansas’ Eric Musselman went consecutive weeks with calls out to Beauchamp and valued the Washington native.

Two months later...

Beauchamp enrolls at Yakima Valley JUCO. His first game? 41 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. It was evident he was the best junior college player in the nation, with ease.

He appeared in 12 games for Yakima Valley. His totals: 30.7 points, 10.5 boards, and 4.5 assists. Also shot 52% from the field and nearly 40% from downtown.

He led the conference with 127 made field goals. Once again, he played 12 games. Baller.

The G-League Route

Instantly when his JUCO season was over, Beauchamp chose the NBA G-League Ignite as his next route. This proved how valued Beauchamp still was. The G-League had two Top-10 picks and Beauchamp knew going this route could put him in draft position.

Beauchamp joined the Ignite, but he wasn't having people freak out over this move as he was surrounded by Scoot Henderson, Jaden Hardy, Dyson Daniels, and plenty of others.

Beauchamp was an instant impact. His buzz began after the first two contests of the season and from there? He took off.

He finished the season averaging 15 points per game. The area I saw the most improvement was on the defensive end. I've always seen Beauchamp as a capable defender but now, I think he's made himself a liable defensive player at the next level.

NBA

Beauchamp ended the season all over draft boards. He’d wound up getting an invite to the NBA Combine, and this offseason people started labeling him as a potential lottery selection, which is still a possibility leading into tonight’s draft.

He ended up working out with plenty of teams. Knicks, Cavs, Spurs, Pelicans, Rockets, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Nuggets, just to name a few.

A week before the draft, it was announced that the Ignite star will have an invite to the Green Room, which is huge. I believe he will hear his name called within the first 20 selections, which will complete Beauchamp's crazy 2-3 year journey with a first-round result.
