Top-50 senior Rylan Griffen talks recruitment, upcoming season
Rylan Griffen has been a problem all year long.
The Texas native, ranked amongst the Top-50 senior prospects in the country, comes out of the Lone Star state and is one of the region's most lethal scorers.
Griffen is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Richardson, Texas.
This past season, he established himself as one of the best two guards in the entire state of Texas, and his season averages included 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. Griffen, alongside fellow Top-50 junior Cason Wallace, helped lead Richardson to an astonishing season
Griffen took away District MVP and also helped lead Richardson to a state semi-final appearance which happens to be the school's first since 1987. Griffen remained consistent all season long and continued to show improvement as each game went on.
He would follow up his strong junior campaign with a strong final go on the Adidas circuit with Team Trae Young, where he would finish the circuit with averages of 17.2 points, four boards, and four assists per game.
Now, Griffen is down to ten programs in his recruitment: Alabama, Kansas, Georgia, NC State, Kansas State, Arizona State, Auburn, Oklahoma State, and California. He has taken visits to several of these programs including Oklahoma, K-State, NC State, Georgia, Oklahoma State, and has a future visit plan to Alabama.
He and I discussed three of the ten finalists, commitment nearing, talked about his upcoming senior season, and which one of his finalists' commits are making a push at him? That & more in his discussion with Stockrisers.com.
Which schools are mostly involved?
“Most of my Top-10.”
Do any new schools try to get involved?
“Nope, I’m locked in with my ten schools.”
So, when do you plan on making a decision?
“November.”
Discuss Alabama, what’s their pitch and how did the in-home visit go?
“Yeah you know Coach Hodgson and I have known each other for a while, since freshman year. He saw me play in EYBL against Alabama Fusion so I’ve had that relationship for a while now, and Coach Oats, he came down to Texas to meet with me it was a good meeting. I like what he said, then you know they got Coach Hodgson there so I can see people that I trust. They always had told me I was someone they needed. They actually wanted me to visit in the summer, I just didn’t have time since I was playing and they want me to visit now so you know I’m going to figure something out.”
How about Auburn, what is their pitch and your thoughts?
“Coach Pearl, he came down here and he was cool. I liked talking to them. They play a cool style and they are in the SEC, that’s a great conference and fun to play in. I like that conference. Coach Flannigan, we always have a good laugh over the phone so it’s cool speaking to them.”
What are your thoughts on NC State?
“It was great. Coach Keatts is cool and everyone down there loves him, so it’s cool. The ACC is as big as it gets when we talking about conferences. They are in the capital also so it’s a great city, it’s just cool.”
Which committed recruits have been going after you?
“Jaden Bradley.”
Your outlook on the upcoming season for you?
“My goal is to win state. We got the team to do it honestly and we've been competing well right now, so we got to keep this up. We’re playing a good schedule so we’ll be ready by the time district and stuff start.”
