Top-50 junior Rodney Rice visits V-Tech, talks future visit plans

Rodney Rice started his live period off today with an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-4 guard out of DeMatha had a homecoming of sorts as he reunited with his now-former high school coach and newly-minted Hokies assistant, Mike Jones, who was just hired by Mike Young in an assistant coaching role after the departure of Chester Frazier.

“It was cool. The coaches and I have formed an important connection and I felt very welcomed and prioritized as well. It was fun, the students weren’t on the campus of course but I’ll be back in the fall,” Rice told Stockrisers.com.

The Top-50 prospect and four-star junior didn’t have a scheduled Hokies visit just yet up until the hiring of his former coach, but, I wouldn’t put the Hokies in the driver's seat just yet as Rice has plans to visit several other programs, including teams who have been in the hunt for him for quite some time now.

He’s currently in the process of choosing which schools outside of V-Tech he plans on visiting. He already made it known he will visit Louisville, Alabama, Georgetown, Maryland, and UConn. It’s just a matter of where he will head next for his future visits.

Rice said his next visit will be either at Louisville or Alabama and could come as soon as next week. In addition, he’s talking with Maryland and Georgetown and is working on dates to visit both schools at some point in the future.

Louisville: “Louisville’s pitch is to allow me to play freely and I would have the green light.”

Alabama: ”Bamas pitch is that they have a fast-paced offense and they get lots of 3s up which is the best part of my game. They feel like I can thrive in their system.”

Commitment timeline?

”Commitment will be in the fall.”
