The state of Texas continues to assert itself as one of the most loaded basketball states in the entire country. I can truly say that anytime I watch a prospect from any city in Texas, I’m left impressed.

That’s the exact reaction I had the first time I watched Richardson’s Rylan Griffen his freshman year.

Griffen is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Richardson, Texas. This season, he’s established himself as one of the best two guards in the entire state and his season averages include 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. Griffen, alongside fellow Top-50 junior Cason Wallace, has helped lead Richardson to an astonishing season

Griffen took away District MVP and also helped lead Richardson to a state semi-final appearance which happens to be the school's first since 1987. Griffen remained consistent all season long and continued to show improvement as each game went on.

As far as where things stand with his recruitment, he remains wide-open and is hearing from a wide variety of programs varying from all different conferences. He discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com and which programs are heavily involved

Which schools are heavily involved in your recruitment?

“Probably Arizona, Arkansas, and Kansas State they talk to me a lot. Kansas State had a down year so they just tell me to try to come in and fix that. Arkansas on the other hand had a great year, so, they are just wanting me to come in and keep helping them be a contender.”

Who are the newest schools involved in your recruitment?

“Arkansas is new, Louisville is also new. Two good schools that had good seasons so I like what I’m seeing from those two schools so far but it’s fun going through the process, so far I just take it day by day and have fun with it because hopefully I only go through it once.”

What’s your relationship with Arkansas’ Eric Musselman?

“Coach Musselman and I talk every day it seems like. He’s a great coach who had been at the next level and seems to know what he’s doing so I definitely am keeping an eye out on them.”

Where do things stand with Kansas State and its staff?

“Coach Southwell and Coach Weber are really cool. They had a bad year but they were really young so the goal would be to try to come in and turn that program back to a winning program and they think I can help with that.”

How about a West Coast school in Arizona? Thoughts on them.

“Coach Jason Terry is one of the coolest coaches you’ll meet. He's been everywhere you want to go so it’s nice to listen to him and it’s nice to hear how he thinks I can improve. I knew him before Arizona so the relationship is just growing high, it’s at its peak right now.”

Any idea on if you’ll trim down your recruitment?

“I might cut my list, I might not. I’m just focused on getting better right now as far as the game. I’ve been watching some schools though to see where I fit in.”

Discuss the historical season you had this year?

“It was the best season the school has ever had. We played really well, we lost in the final four to the eventual state champion. That hurt me but I needed it, it made me want to work harder. I want to get better. They had a good defensive game plan but I want to make it to where you can’t game plan for us so that’s my goal just to be better next year and beat some really good teams next season as well.”
