Four-star junior BJ Edwards is down to six finalists
You walk into a gym and your first watch BJ Edwards play, your first reaction will likely be an ‘ooh’ or an ‘ah’ all due to the skillset the 6-foot-2 guard out of Knoxville Catholic showcases.
Brian Edwards Jr, the crafty-elite guard out of Knoxville, Tennessee. He plays his AAU basketball with the B Maze Elite program, where he’s coached by Bobby Maze. Edwards provides almost everything and doesn’t lack any sort of size at his position.
He posted 19 points per game along with seven assists and six rebounds during his sophomore season. Leading the offensive unit, he catapulted his team to a 25-4 record which included a victory in the state championship game.
Now, he’s down to six finalists and he broke them down with Stockrisers.com.
Tennessee: "I communicate with Coach [Rick] Barnes and Coach Oliver a lot we have a great relationship as well as some staff. .Coach Barnes develops players and stays on them, pushing them to be the best version of themselves. He is the type of coach that is going to stay on you because he knows what your capable of. I really like him and that’s what I look for in a coach. I’m in their backyard in Knoxville so I’m glad they jumped on me early and excited to see what the future holds."
Wake Forest: “Coach [Steve] Forbes is a really great coach he is a winner I’m from Johnson City, Tennessee where he originally coached at ETSU so I have been knowing about him for awhile. At Wake Forest they can have up to three point guards on the court at the same time is what he said one time explaining to me in a zoom call and I really like that idea, and see what he has going with that idea. I really like Wake Forest and we will see what will happens soon in the future."
Virginia Tech: “They are a really good team overall, Coach Young is a great coach. I’m building a great relationship with him and Coach Glitner. I really like what they have going with their program and the way they play and run the floor. Virginia Tech is a great program and we will see how this goes out."
Florida: “Coach [Mike] White is very good at what he does. They have great guards and get them ready for the next level. Coach Pinkins and I have a good relationship and I really like their program, they like to run the floor and that’s something I feel I’m good at and I can fit in with them. Florida is a great school and we will see how this turns out."
Vanderbilt: “Coach [Jerry] Stackhouse has been at the NBA level and knows what it takes to get there. Not saying any other coaches have the answers but he has actually played in the league and that’s my goal so that is a big reason on why Vanderbilt is in my top-six. Vanderbilt is a great school not only education wise but on the court as well which is a big role in my life. Also me and Coach Faragi have a good relationship I really like how he sees things. Vanderbilt is a great school hopefully we will see how things role out with them."
Georgia: “Coach [Tom] Crean and McClain are very good guys. Coach Crean has coached some great guys such as Dwayne Wade, Victor Oladapo, and Anthony Edwards, he has had those guys in college and now they’re in the NBA doing big things which is what I’m planning on doing as well. Georgia has a very good team they can score very well and I can see myself fit in with them."
