Four-star junior Avery Brown talks his recruitment
This summer has been full of breakouts. One who could compete for a breakout of the summer in the 2022 class? Avery Brown. The 6-foot-3 guard out of Northfield Mount Hermon, was more of an under-the-radar type of guy this season. He averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Brown is seen as a skilled playmaker who can lead an offense and lead his team as well. This past season, he helped lead his team to the NEPSAC Class AAA Championship. With his impressive season on the court and his development this summer, Brown has landed several high-major offers and is watching his recruitment grow really fast.
He also leads to very nice recruitment that varies from all conferences. He discussed it with Stockrisers.com.
What schools are heavily in the mix?
Brown: “Indiana, Mizzou, Ohio State, Kansas State, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Georgia, UConn, and Providence.”
Are any of those newer?
Brown: “Xavier, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Georgia.”
Indiana is on you heavy, break down the Hoosiers.
Brown: “Coach Archie Miller and Kenya Hunter spend a lot of time communicating with my family and me. They make me their priority and it has been great developing a relationship with the IU staff.
Ohio State is also on you hard now, talk about them.
Brown: “The OSU staff and I have been on multiple zooms together and it has been very intriguing to learn about their program and how they operate.”
How has your game improved this off-season?
Brown: “The biggest improvement I have made is being able to play consistently at a very high level. One thing my coach told me is if I want to play in front of 15,000 people every night I have to play like I am when barely anyone is watching, so every time I touch the floor I challenge myself on every possession.”
What else have you worked on for your big junior year?
Brown: “One thing I didn’t do as well as my ability to hold my teammates accountable and make sure everyone was competing at the highest level possible, but this year I am more of a leader and I understand how to communicate to my teammates and get through to them.”
Season expectations?
Brown: “God willing we have a season, I just want to make the most of it and hit the hardwood with my teammates. These past few months we have really worked hard and it would be great to get these seniors signed and have the chance to play again. I don’t know what the plan is in terms of playing games but whatever we do, I plan on winning everything.”
