Top-25 junior Julian Phillips discusses his recruitment

September 30, 2020

South Carolina has had tons of talent come through the state over the past few years.

That doesn’t stop now.

Blythewood’s Julian Phillips is currently ranked as the No. 1 player in the state and is ranked in the Top-30 incoming junior prospects in the country. Currently standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 180 pounds, Phillips is a coaches' dream and is a major upside prospect.

He leads impressive recruitment, holding offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Clemson, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech among others. His most recent offer was extended by Ohio State’s head coach Chris Holtmann who recently completed a zoom call with Phillips.

“Ohio State is the newest program involved.”

Phillips, despite having several schools in the mix, said he hears from the following programs ‘frequently’ and those include Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Kansas, Florida State, Clemson, USC, Alabama, Iowa State, Ole Miss, and Ohio State.

He mentioned some schools and broke them down with

Alabama: “Coach [Oats] has been saying that he really likes my game a lot and that he believes I’d fit right in with the play-style they play with.”

Florida State: “Coach Smith has been saying that he thinks my versatility and length could transition well in the way they play. He told me that he’s been liking my game for a while and that playing under him and Coach Ham [Leonard Hamilton] could really benefit me.”

Then he discussed Clemson and South Carolina, two local programs, and what they’re pitching to the top-rated guy in the state:

“They’ve been saying that there’s no place like home and that putting on for my hometown would be good. And they like my game a lot and that I can impact their programs respectively.”

Phillips says he’s watched a lot of film on Brandon Ingram, Jayson Tatum, and Kevin Durant and best describes himself as a ‘versatile forward that can stretch the floor and play both inside and out’
