2023 prospect Gus Yalden leads an impressive early recruitment
He’s moved from nearly three states and has attended now multiple powerhouses, well-known as The Gus-Bus, 2023’s Gus Yalden is one of the more intriguing prospects in the incoming sophomore class.
The 6-foot-8 forward is now enrolled at IMG Academy after attending Mater Dai last season. Many ask why the moves keep occurring and it’s due to his family's line of work, but now enrolled in Bradenton, Yalden has found a comfortable spot on this loaded IMG Academy squad who has begun pre-season workouts.
“Roster is loaded for sure. I love the school and can honestly say I’m blessed to have the opportunity to work with the coaching staff, strength and conditioning coaches, and to compete on the court with some really special players.”
Yalden didn’t put up eye-opening numbers in his freshman season at Mater Dai but his upside and potential are what opened the eyes of the college coaches currently recruiting him.
He holds offers from Florida State, Auburn, Stanford, West Virginia, Winthrop, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Maryland, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Utah. He’s also got interested in a handful of programs including Michigan, Louisville, and Kansas.
Although it’s early, schools are allowed to be contacted by the player prior to the opening of the contact period.
“I’ve talked to some like Louisville, Michigan, and Indiana,” he said. In addition, he said it has been harder to contact coaches since he’s arrived at IMG Academy but says he’s been able to take some time out to contact those coaches who have extended him a scholarship offer.
At IMG Academy, Yalden has settled in and says he’s been working ‘since day-one’ and has seen improvements in his body and in his game.
