Four-star junior Sean Durugordon talks recruitment, breaks down programs
The Big Apple has produced its fair share of basketball stars coming out of the high school ranks.
Sean Durugordon? Could be the next one. The 6-foot-6 wing has some of the best upside and skill in his class but is without a doubt underrated in my eyes. Currently rated as high as a four-star prospect, Durugordon holds 30+ offers and leads national recruitment which includes many high-major offers.
Next season, Durugordon will attend Putnam Science Academy, a program in which had an entire roster of division one players last season led by Texas A&M signee and Top-50 recruit, Hassan Diarra.
As for Durugordon, he holds offers from Arizona State, Mizzou, Seton Hall, East Carolina, Georgia, Iona, VCU, Penn State, USF, UMass, amongst many others.
In addition, he holds interest from many programs, both new and old, among the programs with interest: “Rutgers, UConn, Virginia Tech, Creighton, St. John’s, Vanderbilt, Providence, Texas A&M, and many others,” he said. Amongst his new interests are both Maryland and Auburn, both of which are taking a serious look at Durugordon.
Durugordon broke down some of the programs heavily involved in his recruitment:
Georgia: “I have a great relationship with Coach Crean and the staff there. Coach Crean checks in on me a lot and so does Coach Linehan. I facetime with Coach Linehan often and we just talk and really bond. I feel very comfortable with them. They were my first SEC offer which meant a lot to me. Coach Crean really went into depth on the zoom call we had on how they will use me and how I can make it to the NBA from there program. One of the most in-depth zoom calls I’ve ever had. I learned so much in that call about them.”
Arizona State: “I love their play-style and I believe I can fit into it perfectly. Although they are a newer school involved with me that doesn’t change the sincere interest they have for me. Me and Coach Burno talk often and he just feels that I will have a lot of success at ASU because of my skill set and my game. Meant a lot to be offered by a big-time PAC -12 program like them. They see me as a replacement for Josh Christopher. A 2-way aggressive guard.”
Penn State: “Penn State is a great school, especially academically. I’ve always heard great things about them and to now being recruited by them just makes it more special. I’ve spoken with Coach Chambers, and he’s a great guy, love his approach to the game and his personality. Me and Coach Ferry have a good relationship as well, I feel like I can talk to him about anything. They just really want me to come to Penn State and have a future from there.”
VCU: “I like VCU a ton. They have great facilities and great staff to go along. Coach Rhoades is full of energy and he is the type of coach that will bring the best out of you. Me and Coach Scott talk almost every day, they really want me at VCU and have made it clear that I’m a huge priority for them. Definitely a place I can see myself having success at.”
DePaul: “DePaul was my first high major offer so that holds a ton of weight right there. They saw something in me before everyone else did. I and Coach Hsu have a good relationship and he is also very real with me which I appreciate. I talk with Coach Leitao too sometimes, he is also a great person, very family-oriented staff.”
Hofstra, Seton Hall, East Carolina are also heavily in the mix. All of which completed recent zoom calls with Durugordon who said went well. As far as the rest of his recruitment goes, he is open and is still hearing from programs that are yet to offer him just yet.
For his commitment timeline or a list cut, he’s unsure, here’s what he said:
“As for narrowing list and commitment, not sure yet, It can really happen at any time. I would like to wait until after open gyms but it can be sooner than that depending on what schools are pushing at me the hardest.”
