He’s hungry, explosive, and could be on his way to a five-star ranking. Top-50 junior J’Lon Lyons is primed for a massive summer.

After an impressive showing at USA Basketball’s Junior National Team camp, Lyons continues to generate well-deserved buzz that stemmed from an impressive season last year with Clinton Grace.

Lyons has asserted himself as one of the best two-way guards in the nation, excelling both on the offensive end as a three-level scorer and elite playmaker, but also on the defensive end, where he’s bolstered his ability to disrupt opponents and become a pest on that end of the floor.

This summer, I believe Lyons will be in a really good spot to boost himself into five-stardom. Being valuable on both ends at the point guard position is a premium nowadays, and schools will be in heavy pursuit of the Maryland native.

Lyons discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com, which includes a variety of programs in different conferences, as well as a tidbit on improving his game.

Which schools are heavily in the mix?

“Maryland, VCU, Alabama, Virginia, Tennessee, Louisville, and Indiana.”

Any new schools in the mix?

”Georgia Tech just reached out.”

Are you planning anything visit-wise?

”Yeah, I’m not sure what schools yet, but I’m definitely planning on going on official visits soon.”

Louisville?

”Louisville is a great program that’s well-respected in the NCAA with a high standard of winning, and that’s their culture. I think they can develop players for the next level that really want it.”

Thoughts on Maryland and the new staff?

”The new staff is trying to make things happen, especially with the new recruiting class they are bringing in. They definitely got in their bag during this portal.”

Virginia?

”Virginia is a great program that turned a lot of heads this year, and they are very big on guard play, which is exciting.”

VCU?

”VCU is great. They are big on their player development, and they woke everyone up with their run this year. That coaching staff is amazing.”

Tennessee?

”Tennessee is amazing, and they had a productive year this year, and had a solid run in the tournament. I know it’s only going to get better.”

Alabama?

”Alabama is definitely one of the tops. Their guard play is always fun to watch, and they are just always going to be a team that you can expect to see in March towards the end of the tournament.”

Indiana?

”Indiana is a fun team to watch, especially with the school atmosphere; it’s just amazing how all the students buy into helping their team and school succeed. Not to mention they got a lot of firepower out of the portal, so they are going to be a fun team to watch.”

How are you looking to develop your game this summer?

”I’m looking just to become a big-time winner. At the EYBL level, I know it’s great competition every game, and if you can win on that stage and lead your team, it says a lot about your willingness to win and compete.”
