Last week, Tom Izzo landed America’s top-rated recruit in 2022’s Emoni Bates. This week, he lands another five-star prospect but one that will get on campus next fall as 2021’s Max Christie will commit to the Michigan State Spartans, he told Stockrisers.com.

Christie chose the Spartans over Duke, Illinois, Villanova, amongst many other high-level programs. The 6-foot-6 combo-guard is rated amongst the Top-15 prospects in the entire nation by every single recruiting outlet.

“I will be committing to Michigan State, Tom Izzo, his staff, and my future teammates. Michigan State just felt like home when I visited,” Christie said.

He mentions the visit he took, it was very lucky timing for the Spartans. Christie was able to hit campus for his official visit on March 7th which is just days before the NCAA canceled all events including the tournament, so the timing here for Tom Izzo was perfect, maybe not the most fortunate circumstances but it worked out.

But Christie isn’t choosing the Spartans because it was his last visit and he couldn’t visit anywhere else, this was really something he’s thought about for a while.

“I felt like I knew Michigan State was the school when I took my official visit there. They were already in a great spot and the visit just made it final that they were the school for me.”

“When I visited, I spent a lot of time with both coaches and players, and the culture and family there was amazing. Being able to have conversations and build relationships made me feel like I could fit into a prestigious program like Michigan State.”

Tom Izzo is ‘certainly as good as any coach could be’ according to Christie. The two have built a relationship over the past few years, beginning with Izzo giving him a call last June when 2021 prospects were officially able to hear from college coaches. He would end up offering Christie a scholarship that night and then the rest was history.

“His demanding coaching style is a style that I thrive in and something I want as a challenge and opportunity for growth. He is willing to push me and make me into not only a great basketball player, but an honorable man off the court. “

Christie joins Pierre Brooks in the 2021 class for the Spartans, a class that has tons of potential as Izzo is eying a five/six-man class but is off to an excellent start.
