New York State’s top-ranked player in 2022 goes by the name of Roddy Gayle Jr. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard is one of the best scorers in his class and has a very unique skill set that has college coaches very intrigued at such an early time in the recruiting process.

When watching Gayle Jr. the first thing that stood out to me was his jump-shot and his smooth offensive game. In this day and age, basketball is all about shooting. You see players now more focused on the three-ball then ever before and that’s something that Gayle Jr. isn’t going to struggle with.

He does lead himself quite the recruitment which includes a recent offer from Chris Mack and the Louisville Cardinals, a program who has remained in contact daily with Gayle Jr. after they extended him a scholarship offer. Many others have stayed in regular contact, he said.

“The schools that contact me almost daily are Syracuse, Ohio State, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Oregon, UConn, Tennessee, and Kansas,” Gayle Jr. told Stockrisers.com.  Amongst this list, there are almost 20+ other programs that have an interest in him, which soon could lead to more offers but only time will tell.

He mentioned Syracuse, who in my opinion, will make him their top priority for the 2022 class. Jim Boeheim has talked to him on several occasions and since the contact period opened up on June 15th, he has talked with the staff on zoom many times.

The same goes for UConn. Danny Hurley has been in touch with Gayle Jr. with last week being the last time he talked with them on any sort of platform. I think being from New York State and Connecticut being close to home and playing in the Big East, I think the Huskies will prioritize him as well.

Among his earlier programs involved: Alabama. The Tide have shown their recruiting facets off as of late landing a Top-10 class nationally for 2020 in just the new staffs second season working in the program. They recently completed a zoom call and have expressed their interest heavily and was Gayle Jr’s first power-five offer.

Pittsburgh also recently completed a zoom call with Gayle Jr. and they have expressed interest as well. Jeff Capel has proved to like prospects out of New York State and I believe he will attempt to make a major push to add a scorer of his caliber.

I highly expect more offers here for him in the next few weeks.
