Long-term versatility is a priority for college coaches nowadays.

Yes, the transfer portal is always a primary focus, and every coach loves experience. That said, it isn't easy to find a big man who prides himself on the defensive end while improving his long-term offensive ability day by day.

I see long-term success for Sheek Pearson. The 2026 four-star prospect, who stands at 6-foot-10, shined bright at this year’s Peach Jam for Brad Beal Elite’s 16U squad, which, worth noting, won the entire tournament.

Pearson’s numbers don’t tell the story of how vital he was for that team, impacting them on both sides of the floor using his length and versatility. He averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 boards, and an astounding block average of 2.5 blocks per contest.

College coaches see the pluses of a guy like Pearson, who has a solid defensive-minded IQ and is also blossoming on the offensive end as a guy capable of putting up double figures and impacting spacing.

You saw several offers extended to Pearson during the summer, and his recruitment has only ramped up since.

He discussed that recruitment with Stockrisers.com, with a tidbit of his game included.

Which schools are heavily involved in your recruitment?

“Mizzou, Marquette, and Iowa State the most.”

Are any newer schools in the mix?

“Purdue is the most recent.”

What are your thoughts on Mizzou and what they’re building?

“I think their offense sticks out to me, especially how they play.”

Iowa State, how is your relationship with them, and what are your thoughts on the program?

“We’ve built a relationship over the timeline of their recruiting me, and I’ve seen and heard good things about their player development program.”

And Marquette, how’s your relationship with Shaka? Do you have thoughts on what they’ve been able to do in the last few years?

“We’re still building a relationship, but every time we talk, we have good conversations. I like the history he’s had with bigs, and hearing his perspective on transfers was great.”

And as far as visits, what do you have planned coming up?

“October 5th, I’m going to Marquette, and the following weekend, I’m going to Illinois.”

And how would you describe your game?

“I think I’ve shown most that I’m a good shot blocker, rim runner, and lob threat, working on expanding my game constantly, though.”
