Breaking: Providence lands four-star big man Drew Fielder

It’s been quite the journey over the last six months for West Coast Elite and Southern California Acad. (CA) big man, 6-foot-10 incoming junior Drew Fielder.

The Idaho native burst onto the scene this year, for the most part, and it’s a sigh of relief I'd assume for the breakout big as he dealt with a back injury keeping him out for six months.

You can appreciate a big man with a high motor, running the floor at a great pace, on top of being physical, and a smooth offensive game. Fielder thrives around the rim, but what adds to that, is his touch from beyond the arc. He isn’t a lights-out shooter just yet but has shown he is fully capable of shooting the three-ball.

His recruitment continued to heat up as the Under Armor sessions continued to fall. Offers started to come in left and right, leading him to take official visits this month. He had started his visit trail at USC, then was at Providence this past weekend. In addition, I had been told Syracuse was also in line for an official visit after watching him at Southern California Academy.

Fielder decided to shut things down and his decision is in.

Providence,” Fielder told Stockrisers.com.

I recall an interview between Stockrisers.com and Fielder where he called Providence’s Ed Cooley ‘legendary’ now, Cooley will get a chance to develop what is big with major upside, ready to dominate in the Big East.

Why Providence?

“Because of my relationship with Coach Cooley and the culture of winning and hard work.”

What sealed the deal?

“Just me being able to see how they work and how Coach Cooley coaches his players.”

What was your visit like?

“It was pretty normal. They were just super honest with me and showed me everything. They were super detailed.”

Your thoughts on the future of Providence hoops?

“Winning. I think we have a real chance to win a national championship in the near future.”

How do you see yourself fitting in there?

“Just by playing my game. They need a stretch-four with versatility.”

Ed Cooley.

“He’s a great man who I really look up to and respect.”
