Breaking: Michigan has landed Top-50 rising senior Tarris Reed Jr.
it’s been quite the month for Tarris Reed Jr. The 6-foot-10 forward from the state of Missouri and a former Chaminade student, Reed Jr., announced that he will transition to a new school: Link Year Prep. Just weeks after announcing that, we’re here to present another announcement with him, his commitment.
After a great Peach Jam performance, which was unfortunately halted due to COVID-19 for Tarris, he had a strong start prior to that and was on pace to do very successful things, which he’s done regardless.
In the opening week of the event, the 6-foot-10 rising senior averaged 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and shot the ball extremely well. He helped lead Mokan to a 5-2 record over that one-week span worth of games and showcased his paint skills and my favorite aspect of his game, his high-motor and his ability to guard multiple positions and always be a factor.
Now, we ask Reed Jr. the million-dollar question:
“Where are you going to play your college ball?”
Tarris: “I chose Michigan because I am big on player development. Playing under a coach like coach Howard will help me get to the next level.”
What was it about Michigan that ultimately sealed the deal?
“Talking to the players, coaching staff, and strength and conditioning coach. I love how they connect with one another, feels like a brotherhood.”
Which players have you talked with, what was the message?
“The main one was Jace [Howard], his story is different than most college athletes. He chose the route to play under his father. Talking to him about his experience and why he chose to do so was eye-opening.”
Did you speak with Dug [McDaniel] yet and thoughts on this 2022 class?
“Haven’t spoken with Dug yet, I feel like we’re going to have a strong class. Trying to see what Jett [Howard] decision will be.”
Describe Juwan Howard in one word and why?
“Ambitious, he has a strong desire for success. I like that, playing for a coach that loves and wants to win.”
When did you know you wanted to be a Wolverine and what was the staff’s reaction?
“Coach was just excited as I was. I’m ready to be coached at a high level at Michigan. I want to be pushed to that next level. I told Coach Howard via phone call. My parents and I thought it would be best to do so.”
