Top-50 junior De'Ante Green locks in UNC official, working on others

De’Ante Green made a very difficult decision when opting to leave Christ School this past winter.

The 6-foot-9 forward out of Asheville Christian Academy (NC), still had quite the season despite a new system, new teammates, and oh, all coming during his junior season which in my eyes is one of the more important years for a high school prospect.

But let’s just talk about Green’s impact at his new school.

Green was a mid-year addition for Asheville, a program that started their season with an 0-8 record before adding a marquee prospect in Green. Once added and officially eligible, Green helped them win seven games and they’d end up with a 7-16 record but just pinched their way into a playoff spot. They conquered the opportunity they received, behind the star prospect, Green.

Remarkable would be the word I use. Green was able to lead the program to a state title while being under.500 which is quite crazy. He’d end up finishing the game with 18 points and really battled it out on both ends, which helped them defeat Gaston in the state title game.

One area he said he developed in? Realizing his advantages over his opponents, listen:

“My game improved by being able to realize my mismatches and take advantage of them.”

As for his recruitment, he still has a list of finalists. Green also allowed Stockrisers.com to report that he locked in his first official visit, this one will be to North Carolina from June 11th through the 12th and it is a very important visit for Hubert Davis, who will try and keep the dominant 6’10 forward in his backyard.

Let’s hear a little bit more on his recruitment, as he sat down with Stockrisers.com on Friday afternoon.

Which programs are still heavily in the mix?

“NC State, Florida State, UNC, Tennessee, and Wake Forest.”

You aren’t adding any new schools to your final list, correct?

“Yeah, no new schools.”

You locked in that North Carolina official, thoughts on them?

“UNC has been on me heavy ever since they were able to talk to me. It’s been nothing but love from them. Excited to meet the coaches face to face and see the campus when I take my official visit there in June.”

You’re working on any other visits?

“Yeah, I’m planning with NC State, Tennessee, Florida State, and Wake Forest as well.”

Do you have any ideas of when you plan on making a decision?

“By the beginning of August.”
