Four-star junior Avery Brown locks in first official visit, talks recruitment

Avery Brown is a prospect out of the 2022 class that we have covered closely here at Stockrisers.com. Last weekend, he participated in the NYC Invitational as a member of the PSA Cardinals, a program that he’s played for his entire high school career.

The 6-foot-3 guard out of Northfield Mount Hermon was more of an under-the-radar type of guy this season, and, all of the other seasons he’s played at both the high school and AAU level. He’s about to enter his final AAU season for the Cardinals and has been preparing for his junior summer for months, now, he will get a chance to prove himself.

Many see Brown as a high-level floor general, I agree. He’s able to lead an offense in multiple ways whether it’s pouring in 30 points or taking fewer shots and dishing out 10-13 assists per game. He’s able to conduct his offense, score on multiple levels, distribute, and defensively, he’s just as effective.

His recruitment has grown a vast amount over the past year. During his sophomore season, we labeled Brown as underrated and more than the ‘Ivy League’ player that people were seeing him as. I believe he’s got the ability, and he will play high-major.

Now, entering his senior season in a few months, we talked with Brown and he gave Stockrisers.com the full scoop on his recruitment including one official visit he’s been able to lock in with a Big Ten program, plus, he remains open in his recruitment.

Which programs would you consider heavily involved?

“Nebraska, Mizzou, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Virginia.”

Which programs have entered the mix more recently?

“Notre Dame is the newest school to get in contact with me. Coach Humphrey reached out to me recently and expressed how he and the coaching staff feel about my game.”

And what else about them have they pitched and your thoughts?

“They are very excited to recruit me and create a relationship and so am I. Notre Dame is a great program and they said they need a guard that can go and put the ball in the hoop and I check off all their boxes.”

You have also now locked in your first official visit, where to?

“Nebraska and I are still in heavy contact. My official visit to them is June 25-27 and I’m excited to go out there and visit the university and its facilities.”

Where do things stand with them?

“Coach Hoiberg and Coach Matt have done multiple zooms with me and we actually had a zoom call early this morning. They constantly show me their fast style of play and how they execute on the offensive end and how it fits my game. I feel like Nebraska will be a great team next year with the guys coming in.”

Do you have an idea about when you’d like to commit? Any type of timeline?

“No timeline as of now, still open.”
