Four-star junior Jameel Brown updates his recruitment

Jameel Brown missed the entirety of his sophomore year due to a grueling wrist injury that took away a major season of his high school career. The four-star recruit out of Haverford, PA is a USA Basketball invitee and in my opinion, without his injury, would be ranked even higher now.

Brown had made a verbal pledge to Matt Painter and Purdue before announcing that he will reopen his recruitment. Brown’s lead recruiter at Purdue was Micah Shrewsberry, who was offered (and accepted) the head coaching job at Penn State.

The Haverford star is coming off a season where he averaged over 24.5 points per game and shoots around 43% from the field. He’s a prime-time scorer that scores on all levels and has made drastic improvements to his three-point shot which makes him even more of a prolific scorer. In addition, he’s made physical adjustments that will make his already lethal burst and first step even more explosive.

Brown took the time on Sunday night to discuss his recruitment with Stockrisers.com.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“As of right now St. Joe’s, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Purdue are involved.”

Have any newer schools inquired?

“Washington and Georgia are the newest schools involved.”

With Purdue, where do things stand with them since you reopened?

“One of their assistants reached out to me yesterday saying that they still want me and there’s a need for me at Purdue. They are definitely still in the running for sure.”

How about Penn State, where do things stand with them?

“Prioritzing me for sure. I have a zoom meeting with them soon. I already have a relationship with Coach Shrewsberry because he was just at Purdue.”

What about a local program in St. Joe’s?

“Billy Lange has a vision for me in his program. He coached for the Sixers for a while and they’re obviously a Philly school. They’re a program on the rise in the A-10.”

When do you want to commit again?

“No timeline, whenever I find the right fit and the right time then I’ll commit.”
