Three schools heavily involved with four-star junior Kyle Filipowski
Kyle Filipowski is a prospect we’ve covered for quite some time here at Stockrisers.com.
The 6-foot-10 forward out of Wilbraham and Monson, watched his recruitment explode over the last few months including last fall when he earned several scholarships offers including ones from Illinois and Pittsburgh.
It was always mind-boggling to me that Filipowski was just hitting the ground running as a high-major recruit just this past fall. Watched him earlier in the year last year, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he flashed tons of upside and was doing some things you don’t usually see a 6’10 forward do and I believe that college coaches have certainly agreed.
Last July, I asked Filipowski to breakdown his own game and then we will do it again this time around so we see improvements, here’s what he said:
“So I consider my game as an all-around type of style. I can either post up on a guard or big and from there I can face up or make a move with my back to the basket.
I can also take it out on the perimeter and shoot it from anywhere on the court or drive and create for others as well as get the rebound and push a break. I’ve played basically every position on the court being able to guard multiple positions and feel comfortable wherever coach puts me but it also depends on my mismatch situation.”
So, where do things stand with his game now? He discussed the evolvement of his game and the rundown on his recruitment with Stockrisers.com.
Which programs are heavily involved in your recruitment?
“Iowa, Ohio State, and Marquette are heavily involved.”
Any newer programs to extend interest?
“Wake Forest is a new school that has gotten involved.”
Where do things stand with Iowa and your thoughts on how they’ve played?
“Iowa has continued to impress me this year as they’ve been one of the best in the BIG 10 and in the country. Their team is more than Luka Garza and seeing how cohesive their team is on the court shows the type of relationship they all have with one another. Coach McCaffery is an awesome dude and our relationship is tight as it continues to get better every week.”
How about Ohio State? What have they pitched and your thoughts?
“Ohio State has a lot to offer for me when it comes to playing on the biggest stage in college basketball and academics. After watching the amazing season they’ve had this year it’s great to see the team unity and family setting within their program. Coach Holtmann and I are continuing to develop our relationship which is great and it is always good to see him as one of the coaches of the year contenders.”
And a program like Marquette? You’ve virtually met with them tons.
“My relationship with them is very close as well and it gets better as time goes on. Their plan for me is great to see and I can really strive on and off the court. I can really see myself growing as a person and player at Marquette if I were to attend there.”
Have you thought about a commitment timeline at all?
“No commitment timeline yet or cutting list soon. Waiting to take visits first and see what happens after this AAU season.”
How has your game evolved since last year?
“My games improved in multiple ways. My shots gotten more consistent, my handle has gotten a lot better and my court awareness has increased so my passing has been much better as I’m able to have the ball in my hands and make the decisions on the court. Besides that, I’ve been staying focused on my body and getting stronger and quicker every day.”
