South Carolina has had tons of talent come through the state over the past few years.

That doesn’t stop now.

Blythewood’s Julian Phillips is currently ranked as the No. 1 player in the state and is ranked in the Top-30 incoming junior prospects in the country. Currently standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 180 pounds, Phillips is a coaches' dream and is a major upside prospect.

I watched him at the Battle At The Rock (virtually) event recently and watched him earlier on in the year prior to the COVID-19 halt and he continues to dazzle and improve his overall game. His recruitment has also seen major leaps in the past few months.

He discussed that recruitment with Stockrisers.com.

Which schools are heavily involved?

“Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, Alabama, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, and Arkansas are the schools talk to the most often that I have offers from.”

How about any newer schools to enter the picture?

“The newer schools that reached out to me closer to this time are North Carolina, Georgia, and Auburn.”

Let’s talk Florida State. Thoughts on the Seminoles and Coach Hamilton’s plan if you choose Florida State?

“I think the Seminoles have a great program along with great coaching staff. Their coaches are really focused and tuned in on winning and I think that has shown a lot this season. From what I’ve been told, if I chose their program, they would use my lengthy frame and versatility to the advantage.”

Alabama has been quite impressive this season. Have you been able to watch and what are your thoughts?

”I have been able to catch a few of their games and like you said they have been very impressive this year. I think they also have a great program and coaching staff, that’s probably been a big piece on their success this year.”

Those new programs interested, how serious of interest?

”I would say so. I talk to them each at least once, maybe even twice a week. It’s been great to talk to them and build on our relationship.”

You recently talked with Georgia’s Tom Crean, how’d that go?

”He reached out to me a few weeks ago. He asked me how my season was going and he was also telling me about the program. We have been in contact several times after as well, just building our relationship.”

How would you say your game has improved this season?

”I would say I’ve improved shooting the ball with more confidence. Also being able to get my teammates more involved. I’ve been trying to improve stepping up into more of a leadership role this season.”

Briefly, how would you best describe your game?

“I would break myself down as a versatile forward that can play both inside and out offensively, and is a good shot-blocker and rebounder.”
