Pre-Commitment Interview: Aminu Mohammed

It’s safe to say that we saw a lot of early college decisions come out of the 2021 class compared to any other cycle. Likely due to COVID-19, several players move up decisions and some are still exploring their options, it is all just the normal with the crazy year we’re having.

One prospect who didn’t sign early? Greenwood Labratory’s Aminu Mohammed. A player we’ve covered since he was unranked, Mohammed is currently ranked as a five-star across all recruiting services.

The 6-foot-5 guard has quite the recruitment, per se. The reason I say that is because Mohammed’s recruitment varies from schools in all different conferences and as a five-star didn’t really speak with the blue-blood programs. Regardless, he’s a five-star talent and won’t be on a college campus for long either way.

Among the schools in the mix for him include Oklahoma State, Georgia, Georgetown, DePaul, Kansas State, and a few others.

Stockrisers.com reported over one month ago that Mohammed would likely enroll on a college campus in January and the possibility of that happening is really high. In addition, he was slated to announce his decision at the Bass Pro tournament in Late-December but a cancellation of the event due to COVID-19 moved up his decision.

We now know a decision will likely come earlier, the current target date being ‘December 15th or a little after’

Mohammed talked about his recruitment and more with Stockrisers.com.

Aminu, which schools are still in the mix? Or not much has changed?

Mohammed: “The same schools as before are still in the mix, nothing changed.”

What are you looking for in a program?

Mohammed: “In terms of what I’m looking for in a college program I basically just want to go somewhere that my game fits at.”

We talked about this last month but where do you stand with the possible early enrollment?

Mohammed: “Enrolling early all depends on if my season is canceled. If I do it will have me prepared and ready to play next year.”

You watched Oklahoma State, how does Cade Cunningham’s buzz intrigue you?

Mohammed: “Cade’s impact intrigues me because it allows me to see how an elite player is being featured in a program that is also recruiting me.”

You’ve been training a lot, how has your game improved this winter?

Mohammed: “For my game, I try to improve every little aspect such as defense, ball handling, mid-range shooting, three-point shots, decision making, and learning how to make my teammates better, so overall these are some of the areas I’ve improved in.”

Any recent virtual meetings?

Mohammed: “DePaul and Georgetown.”

How did those go?

Mohammed: “It went alright, both schools are just telling me more about their programs and how it will be a good fit for me basically.”

When are you aiming for a decision?

Mohammed: “I think the decision is still set for December, could be January if not.”
