Five-star junior Mark Mitchell updates his recruitment
Entering this summer, Mark Mitchell was a five-star that only held two official scholarship offers. Now, he remains a five-star status but has plenty of suitors involved in his recruitment. Now standing at 6-foot-7, Mitchell has become one of the most sought-after prospects in the entire 2022 class.
He averaged 21.6 points and 8.7 rebounds in his sophomore season at Bishop Miege and also was invited to USA Basketball mini-camp.
He gave Stockrisers.com the latest update on his recruitment and his development.
Which programs remain in the mix in your recruitment?
Mitchell: “Arkansas, North Carolina, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas, UCLA, USC, and Wake Forest.”
North Carolina has been heavily involved, what’s their current pitch?
Mitchell: “I’ve just been building my relationship with Coach Williams and Coach Robinson and just trying to stay in touch with them as much as possible. They like my game a lot and they hope that I could take a visit when everything opens up.”
Kansas State has been in the mix for a while, where do things stand there?
Mitchell: “With K-State, I have a really good relationship with Coach Weber and the staff there. It would be kinda cool to create something new if I were to go there.”
UCLA, another program squarely in the mix, what is the pitch?
Mitchell: “The coaching staff is just telling me how they can help me develop my game and I also have family down there and I really like the area.”
What about a program like Arkansas?
Mitchell: “They are turning the program around and they just got a really good class so they’re a pretty intriguing option.”
Do any new programs enter the mix?
Mitchell: “Kentucky is the only new school to reach out recently.”
Finally, how has your off-season gone development wise?
Mitchell: “It has been a kinda weird off-season because I’ve actually been playing a little bit but I have also had time to get into the weight room more and get stronger. I’m at about 6-foot-8 and 207-pounds now and I’ve been working a lot on my jumper to make it more consistent.”
