Top-60 senior Mac Etienne updates his recruitment, new interest

It has almost been a year since I witnessed the breakout of Mac Etienne. He dominated for Suffield Academy at the PSA Cardinals showcase. Etienne, the 6-foot-10 big man, decided to move on and enroll at Brewster Academy for his senior season.

There had been talks of a possible reclass in which Etienne was ‘50-50’ about this summer but evidently, he’s found a role at Brewster and still leads really busy recruitment.

Per Etienne, in the mix still: Marquette, UCLA, Louisville, Illinois, Miami, UConn, Syracuse, Kansas, Providence, and many others.

He’s recently completed zooms with several schools, last night being the most recent one as he met with UCLA’s Mick Cronin who has been heavily involved with Etienne for a while but has been in hot pursuit all summer long.

In addition, he recently had ones with Marquette’s staff, Miami’s Jim Larranaga and Illinois’ Brad Underwood.

Prior to the cancellation of this season, Etienne took an official visit to Illinois, here’s what he said on his official visit to Champaign:

“The atmosphere was crazy and the student section was crazy. The game was great and you could really see how they run their offense around their big men,” Etienne said on his visit to watch Illinois face Iowa.

This summer, Etienne really turned into a heavily-pursued recruit. He once drew interest from Duke and there was even a possible visit discussed but nothing ever came to fruition. Now, with his recruitment still open, he has indeed heard from a new blue-blood program not named Duke.

Etienne tells Stockrisers.com that Kentucky is the newest program to reach out to him. There hasn’t been an offer and nothing is serious just yet but they have definitely shown interest and if it does indeed become serious I bet we will know sooner than later.

I know tons of people who are excited to see Etienne develop this season under Jason Smith at Brewster, Etienne agrees and says “I love it here [at Brewster], we’ve been working out a lot and I’ve built a great relationship with my teammates and coaches.”
