2022's Tyrell Ward is emerging as a high-level recruit

September 20, 2020

Since his eighth grade year, Tyrell Ward has been known as a high-level prospect. After completing his freshman season last year he began to add offers including one of his first coming from Providence last May. The 6-foot-5 wing has since added offers from LSU, Georgetown, Seton Hall, amongst many others.

Now, with DeMatha’s seniors off to their respective colleges, it will put Ward into a leadership and major role. He’s expected to contribute a lot to Mike Jones’ lineup this upcoming season and with the addition of Top-50 recruit Rodney Rice, the DMV powerhouse is expected to have an excellent season once again.

Back to Tyrell Ward. One word for me to describe him, his game, and his recruitment as a whole:

Currently rated as a Top-120 prospect in the 2022 class, I see Ward as a Top-75 caliber player and his recruitment is starting to add up and more programs are entering the mix, according to Ward.

“Some of the schools involved include Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Georgia, and LSU,” Ward said. Kevin Willard and Seton Hall are considered a newer school in the mix, Ward says. In addition, he has heard from Virginia Tech, St. John’s, USC, and UCLA.

With that being said, Ward broke down the four programs that have been heavily involved for quite some time with

Georgetown: “They talk a lot about staying home and rebuilding the old culture that the school once had.”

Wake Forest: “That staff talks about me playing a lot right away and the Coach [Steve Forbes] is familiar with recruiting DeMatha guys.”

Georgia: “Tom Crean talks a lot about how he’s seeing a lot of Victor Oladipo in me because i’m humble and have a great work ethic.”

LSU: “The staff talks about me developing my body more so I can adjust right a way to be an instant contributor to the program.”

How does Ward describe his own skillset?

“I have a good jump shot and I love to use the pick and roll. I also love to run the fast break, and i’m very unselfish and love seeing my teammates shine.”
