Four-star junior Roddy Gayle Jr. talks recruitment
New York State’s top-ranked player in 2022 goes by the name of Roddy Gayle Jr. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard is one of the best scorers in his class and has a very unique skill set that has college coaches very intrigued at such an early time in the recruiting process.
When watching Gayle Jr. the first thing that stood out to me was his jump-shot and his smooth offensive game. In this day and age, basketball is all about shooting. You see players now more focused on the three-ball then ever before and that’s something that Gayle Jr. isn’t going to struggle with.
His recruitment involves several programs, since June 15th, he’s heard from nearly 20+ programs which included daily phone calls and several programs jumping into the mix. Now, as Gayle Jr. enters his junior season we could possibly see more movement in his recruitment.
Gayle Jr. says ‘The schools involved include Syracuse, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, UConn, Alabama, Marquette, and Georgetown’
“The newest program involved is St. John’s,” he says.
Over the past two weeks, he’s completed three zoom calls which include ones with Marquette, UConn, and Ohio State. These are three schools that have placed themselves high on Gayle Jr’s offer sheet. They’ve been in heavy contact since the contact period opened up this past summer.
“The schools are pitching the same thing. They want me to be effective as soon as possible and help them get over the hump and take them to a championship. I hear a lot about player development and becoming the player I want to be and reaching my max potential, I care about that.”
As far as his recruitment goes, it seems as if these programs that are involved could be the main ones in the mix and maybe a list cut comes at some point.
