USA Gold Medalist and five-star junior Max Christie is ranked amongst the top-25 juniors in the class of 2021. He’s drawn himself a high-major recruitment all throughout high school and spoke with me yesterday to discuss it.
“Many schools are still recruiting me. MSU, Villanova, Michigan, Ohio State, & Purdue have called most recently,” Christie told Stockrisers. The Rolling Meadows guard also plays for the Illinois Wolves. Throughout high school he’s filled the stat sheet: Averaged 25.5 ppg., 10.0 rpg. and 3.2 apg.
Prior to this major and unfortunate outbreak we’ve got going on, Christie took an official visit to Michigan State on March 7th, his first of that capacity and broke it down.
“The Michigan State official was great. It was my first official visit and I feel like Michigan State did a great job on their part of making me feel welcomed and at home.” Throughout last summer, Tom Izzo and his staff did an outstanding job in following Christie, as did the other programs that were on him hard. Prior to the end of the summer, Izzo offered him last June.
So, now that this virus outbreak has occurred, Christie says that it hasn’t effected much in his recruitment besides the on-campus part of things: “This virus has affected my ability to go on visits since all schools are shut down. but for the most part, I am still in contact with coaches and such. So my recruitment hasn’t been affected as much.”
As far as next steps, Christie says he has an idea who’s on his ‘final list’ but won’t really publicize the list. In addition, he’s weighing a potential commitment date but feels like he could commit ‘pretty soon’ with all that is going on. This unfortunate circumstance has moved tons of things up as far as recruiting as recruits have had more time to sit down with family and be independent.
