Another major transfer hit the portal yesterday as Santa Clara guard Trey Wertz told Stockrisers.com yesterday afternoon that he’s officially in the transfer portal. I expected no shortage of suitors for the 11.5 point per game scorer. For two seasons with the Broncos he scored in double figures and shot nearly 49% from the field in both seasons.
Wertz’ teammate Tahj Eaddy committed to USC earlier in the day and then he got his shot to explore the portal and heard from over 20+ schools.
The Santa Clara guard told Stockrisers.com that he fielded texts and calls from: Arkansas, Arizona, South Carolina, Butler, Minnesota, Northwestern, Colorado State, Creighton, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Stanford, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Vanderbilt.
In addition, he landed a scholarship offer from Arizona and Sean Miller plus offers from App. State and UNCC. Expect the offer list to grow.
Wertz said that he’s also talked to Butler’s Lavall Jordan, Xavier’s Travis Steele, South Carolina’s Frank Martin, amongst several other head coaches.
As far as next steps, he’s hearing from new programs as this morning he already heard from BYU, Marquette and Xavier. Plus, he has no timetable on when he could possibly announce his decision.
